What's happening: New data reveals that Latinos and Native Americans are disproportionately killed by police compared to white Americans and are significantly younger at the time of their deaths. A mapping initiative by Campaign Zero shows that nearly 13,400 people have been killed by law enforcement in the U.S. since 2013, with Hispanics and Indigenous people accounting for about 22% of these deaths. https://brnw.ch/21wM23z #LatinoBuzz

How long are we voting able Latinos going to continue allowing these xenophobes calling our people and our communities a bed of terrorist? Are our farm workers terrorists? How about all our construction workers building this wonderful country in extreme weather so people can enjoy their nice houses, fancy work buildings, wonderful highways, etc, etc??? Our service workers that cut their multi millions fancy home yards, take care of their children, cook their meals, and clean their clothes and their bathrooms??? How long are we going to allow this political and professional bullying??? WE ARE the working heart of this country! We contributed more than other racial and ethnic groups that are NOT harassed and discriminated against in this country. Despite of being only 19% of the U.S. population, Latinos were responsible for 39% of the growth of U.S. real GDP during 2020 and 2021. In November 2024, let's show these political xenophobes that Latinos are here to STAY and to make sure they understand we are NOT going anywhere! 💯

Proud of The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights' report Cause for Concern 2024: The State of Hate (Updated May 2024). Each of the last four presidential campaign cycles has shown an unmistakable pattern: Reported hate crimes increase during elections. From the mainstreaming of hate and the failure of social media platforms to adequately address disinformation, the current climate is rife with opportunities for the trend of increased hate to continue into the 2024 election — unless action is taken. This report outlines several recommendations for actions that need to be taken to address the increase in hate crimes. Perhaps the most timely: Public officials should speak out against hate and refrain from appeals to bigotry in election campaigns. Read more: https://lnkd.in/dAT9CJgW

🌟 **BECOMING AN INFORMED VOTER** 🌟 Economic disparities in the African American community stem from systemic issues like income, employment, education, healthcare access, and social context¹⁴. To address this, potential solutions include coordinated policy reforms, inclusive growth strategies, and investments in minority-owned businesses, potentially leading to an additional $6,000–$8,500 in annual income per capita¹. In the realm of Criminal Justice Reform, racial disparities significantly impact the African American community¹². Solutions encompass reducing police stops and searches, reforming drug sentencing, and providing fairer treatment through training to reduce racial bias⁷. Furthermore, Health Care disparities in the African American community result from systemic issues like access to quality medical care and environmental problems¹³¹⁴. Solutions involve community engagement strategies and health professionals leading by example to understand and address unique health needs¹⁴. Regarding Voter Rights, the history and current status of voter rights in the African American community are crucial issues⁹¹¹¹². This recent California court decision sheds light on issues surrounding implicit bias. The case involves a Black man detained by the San Diego Police Department on a concealed firearm violation, raising concerns of racial profiling. Expert testimonies and bodycam footage analysis suggest unintended racial bias may have played a role. The trial court, however, focused on whether the officer knowingly stopped a Black man, overlooking the potential influence of implicit bias. Discover the full details and implications by accessing the Daily Appellate Reports. The case underscores the significance of the Racial Justice Act, allowing defendants to seek relief from bias, whether intentional or unintentional. It was Aug 11, 2017. The “Unite the Right” march unmasked these “alt-right” marchers as Neo-Nazis & other forms of white supremacists. They shouted “Jews Will Not Replace Us” & Heather Heyer was murdered & 9 others injured. We have cause to be concerned as we @civilrightsorg report here: bit.ly/3M51oim. Hate escalates in election cycles and the rate of reported hate crimes continues to rise. But we can do something about it. Like ask our govt to do more. bit.ly/3M9PLqd And we must keep pressure on social media platforms to moderate hate & address disinformation -cheap fakes to deep false - and more. As a civil rights coalition we come together - all faiths, races, gender identities & ability levels to say we all belong!

With all this noise surrounding accessibility for digital. It's important to take action to foster your own accessible platforms. Especially with more agreements, lawsuits, & penalties surfacing. Remember in the eyes of the law if it's not accessible, it's discrimination.
It is a fundamental right for American citizens to vote. It is also a fundamental right for the 20% of Americans who are disabled to have equal access to vote. This new agreement will bolster those rights, and help provide equity for this election year! #A11y #DigitalAccessibility #AmericansWithDisabilities U.S. Department of Justice #Title2 #VotingRights https://lnkd.in/gUMBRYVi

Can you identify what is wrong with this sign? In bold, black, capitalised letters, the sign has text which reads “polling station”, with a small piece of paper sellotaped underneath it reading “disabled access”, also in bold, black, capitalised letters. Capitalised text is considered inaccessible to people with visual impairments as they are used to reading words in lower case and can therefore better identify them. The signs also lack any form of tactile interpretation and the arrow implies a separate entrance specifically for disabled people, which would prolong a voter’s journey and is a form of segregation. On the day of the UK General Election, members of our team weigh in on their struggles exercising their vote due to disability on our blog. 👇 https://lnkd.in/ekSWASVB #DisabilityVote #YourVoteMatters #UKGeneralElection #YourVoice #DisabilityPower #DisabilitySupport #DirectAccess

Latino or not, it is important to understand that if one chooses to stay at home, they may not have the right to complain about their government, whether it be at the local or national level. This is because staying at home implies that one is not actively participating in civic engagement or fulfilling their duties as a citizen, which includes voicing one's opinions on government policies and decisions. Therefore, it is essential to exercise our right to vote and stay informed about current events to have an active say in how we are governed.
‘Su voto es su voz.’ Latinos, how important is your vote during this year’s elections?

Spoke to the ABC Indigenous Affairs team today on the Senate Inquiry into Murdered and Missing Indigenous women and girls, which has been tabled. There are important recommendations made which need to be implemented. It certainly has a historic feel to it, as this issue has been so long neglected. #sayhername #violenceagainstwomen #femicide #racism #societyandculture #politics #lawreform #equaljustice https://lnkd.in/ge3rBQgd
