All mothers want the same thing for their children: a long and healthy life, a safe environment, and a sound education. And yet 43% of children born into poverty are still poor a generation later. An absence of role models, unstable housing, violence, and poor education have set teenage moms on a path to continue the cycle of poverty they are experiencing. 60% of moms at Almost Home report experiencing some level of homelessness. They come to Almost Home pregnant, or already parenting young children, while struggling to create their identities and define a life for themselves and their children. The moms at Almost Home are special. They are highly motivated and ready to do the work required to improve their lives and the lives of their children. Certainly, this generational cycle is not easy to overcome. But, at Almost Home, there is hope. Donate before 2PM tomorrow to quadruple the impact of your gift and help us meet our $135,000 virtual fundraising goal: charidy.com/empower. As we enter a season of gratitude and reflection, it is important that we take a moment to acknowledge the blessings in our lives. For many of us, blessings may come in the form of a comfortable home, a warm meal, and the love and support of our families. Yet, for far too many members of our communities, these basic needs remain out of reach. It is easy to take for granted the simple comforts that many of us enjoy each day. However, we must remember that those who are homeless often face challenges that are difficult to understand from lack of affordable housing, drug or alcohol addiction to mental health issues. From the struggle to find safe housing to the daily fight to live, these individuals must navigate a complex and often unforgiving landscape. This holiday season, let us commit to doing what we can to alleviate the burdens of those who are struggling with homelessness. Whether through a warm meal, volunteering at shelters, donating to local charities, or advocating for policies that prioritize housing and support for those in need, we can make a meaningful difference in the lives of others. #TentEncampmentRemoval #alternativehousing #mentalhealthservices #homelessness

Colleagues and friends, a personal request: please donate to Dharma Care's Winter Warmer Appeal to provide sleeping bags, warm clothes, food and hygiene packs to those who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness this winter. Donate now at https://lnkd.in/gSB8edri Everyone is talking about it but governments are not doing enough fast enough. It really is a "wicked problem". We're losing the battle to provide enough housing. But we can alleviate some of the suffering. We can provide a glimmer of hope in the midst of despair. No one wants to be in this position, no one. The housing crisis is the “worst it’s ever been”, according to Anglicare's April 2024 report. Tweed and Byron Shires in northern New South Wales have the worst homelessness stats in the state. But you've all heard the stats - over and again. Homelessness is not what you think. It now ensnares a wide range of people - working families, young people, single mothers, those with mental health issues and disabilities, and those you would not expect - previous business executives, teachers - and the list goes on. We want to raise $75K to ease the pain this winter. Please donate now at https://lnkd.in/gSB8edri.

Did you know that 37% of all Australians experiencing homelessness are under the age of 25? That's a staggering figure - over 46,000 children and young people who are unable to live at home, facing incredible challenges. The leading causes of youth homelessness, such as housing crises, family violence, family separation, and breakdowns, are issues that we can address together. Many young individuals are left with no choice but to couch-surf, live temporarily with other households, and some even endure the harsh realities of life on the streets. I firmly believe that every child deserves a chance, and this is why I'm taking part in the 2023 Sleep Under the Stars event. Our mission is to raise $1.2 million for Stepping Stone House. This funding will enable them to provide accommodation and support for 48 at-risk youths for an entire year, giving them a much-needed opportunity to succeed in life. I encourage you to join me by registering and fundraising yourself, or if you are unable to participate, consider making a donation. Your support can truly make a significant impact on someone's life. On Friday, October 27, I will be sleeping out at Cockatoo Island in Sydney with my Trend Micro AMEA Team, standing in solidarity with the 45,862 young Australians experiencing homelessness. Together, we can be the guiding stars that provide a safe home for disadvantaged young people. Please make a donation to my fundraising page, and let's work together to light a path out of homelessness. #YouthEmpowerment #HomelessnessAwareness #SteppingStoneHouse #SleepUnderTheStars https://lnkd.in/g4eNqw-g

The first step in solving a problem is to define and understand the problem. Homelessness is no different. For the last 25 years, Solutions for Change has been successfully solving family homelessness because they have identified and understand the REAL problem. The real problem is the churn of poverty and dependency. Here is how it works: 1. Something traumatic happens in a person's life and they do not have the skills or tools to deal with it. They turn to coping mechanisms creating a sense of victimhood. 2. Well intentioned people come along to help by offering handouts. 3. This creates a dependency on the handouts and in turn further deepens the sense of victimhood. 4. The greater the sense of victimhood, the more handouts are required, which leads to further dependency...and the churn continues around and around. Please consider helping us fight the Churn. Your tax deductible donation (link is below in the comments), no matter the amount, will go a long way in underwriting the futures of the families in our program. |Chris Megison|Kathryn Warren, MBA|Dennis Bone|Jennifer Pankey #WeAreOneUs #unmaskthechurn
