I thoroughly enjoyed the Advanced Manufacturing Facility Construction conference last week and was proud to represent Barge Design Solutions just 2 blocks from our HQ!
The BIG takeaway for me as it pertains to advanced manufacturing project development, and more specifically the push for electric vehicles and the supply chain that goes into making them, was that the design-bid-build process is NOT the way to go when delivering projects of this magnitude. A large majority of the federal regulations (i.e. Biden's Infrastructure Plan), technology and supply chain that are required of these projects is somewhat new to most parties involved, so it takes a strong Design-Build or Design-Assist model, with a lot of collaboration between Architects, Engineers, General Contractors and Subject Matter Experts to get these projects done on schedule and within budget.
With an election year coming up, it will be interesting to see where things are headed with the EV/Battery manufacturing space. While we feel strongly that construction and manufacturing are not going to slow down, it'll be interesting to see if we can bring more of the supply chain into the United States. All I know is that Barge Design Solutions is excited to expand upon our experience and COLLABORATE with other great partners to continue to innovate the way large projects are delivered.
