It's been my POV that it's not possible to keep politics out of business--and leaders are wise to figure out how to navigate this space. But that doesn't mean companies need to coddle employees or necessarily represent their personal beliefs. I encourage companies to tread very lightly & carefully & intentionally in social issues outside their core business. This is a big part of why I wrote my last book, Teaching the Dinosaur to Dance. I'm sharing this article on what's happening in Silicon Valley because what the CEO of cryptocurrency exchange platform Coinbase did was something unthinkable in Silicon Valley: he said there would be no politics at his company. Today, he looks prescient. He said, we don’t: Debate causes or political candidates internally that are unrelated to work Expect the company to represent our personal beliefs externally Assume negative intent, or not have each other’s back Take on activism outside of our core mission at work The pendulum is swinging back. I have been following Paul Graham (channeling Brian Chesky) and the vibrant conversation on Founder Mode. My question: How would it play out in the context of #decentralized ventures? Specifically, how does #foudnermode hands-on approach look like for ventures that – as a16z crypto (channeling SEC) notes - take a #decentralized approach where the focus is reducing reliance on the efforts of a small set of a founding team?
