Here are a few things I learned over the past few weeks: A. While general practitioners play a major role in preventive care, early diagnosis, and treatment, somehow they're still not equipped with enough resources to do a thorough first screening. B. Point A causes a lot of cases to be referred to specialists so a more specialized diagnosis can be done. C. Between waiting time and limited information, a lot of cases may be dismissed because "it doesn't look like you're dying. . yet". One reason is being under pressure from having too many patients. D. Solutions have been developed for a better first screening. Not sure why they're not being implemented. E. Doctors want to be able to help their patients more effectively. F. As conservative as they are, doctors are open to adopting new systems based on the perceived benefit.

For years, the public hasn't known much about the full scope of medical misdiagnoses that happen in the U.S., according to a new report released by the Johns Hopkins Armstrong Institute Center for Diagnostic Excellence. Until now, estimates of annual incorrect diagnoses have varied widely, the report says. Now, researchers say an estimated 371,000 patients die and 424,000 are permanently disabled each year because they are incorrectly diagnosed across a range of medical care settings — not just in the family doctor's office. Overall, medical providers misdiagnose diseases about 11% of the time, the report says. On the lower end of the spectrum, only 1.5% of heart attacks are misdiagnosed, researchers found. On the higher end: 62% of spinal abscess are incorrectly diagnosed.
