They don’t tell you that many VCs are event planning companies as well We just hosted our Art Basel event last night, our final one of the year The events we planned this year - Annual meeting (1) - Founder summit (1) - Team retreats (3) - Founder and VC Happy hours (6) - Operator meetups (2) - Webinars for our founders (6) These events are core to us as we operate as a community fund. That means we rely on our community to leverage and help each other, instead of solely relying on us in a hub and spoke model. Our goal is to be a super connector for our founders, co-investors, LPs and operators. We don’t want to hold all of the value ourselves as we don’t see that as scalable or leading to the most value creation.

I should know because I read about them for the last two years before finally going to see Fernanda Böhme last week. 👀 A soloprenuer taking notes on measuring success in years, not months. A gal networking to raise money for a startup. Another gal in a marketing role at current job wondering how to give her best self. A dude, paying his way through college running a tshirt business with roommate. Various business pros that lead small and large brands. If you’re not there, you don’t see or experience these things. Founder Friday brings together ambition and capability. Not just in terms of the celebrity speakers. In terms of the audience too. One of the last things you don’t see… the sponsors who make it happen. Thanks to BONCO and Kiln for this round. They’re silently but not subtlety enabling business to happen in these crowds. 🚨It blows my mind that people came from as far as North Tampa, Naples, Port Charlotte and even Ft Myers. People literally drove 2+ hours to come check out a tech meetup in Sarasota... 🤯 This all started 7 Months ago when a few friends got together for a drink at a local bar to talk about tech and entrepreneurial stuff. Not a single one of us planned to start a large tech meetup that day, but we all walked away thinking that we should do it again soon and that each of us should bring a friend to the next one. So we did just that. 14 people showed up to the next meetup. Then 30+ Then 50+ Now 130+ I do not expect the exponential growth trajectory to continue, but it does validate the demand for the type of event we are hosting. People are excited to get out from behind the desk and connect with other tech professionals. Which happens to include more of us than we think as the world goes full digital. So many of us live here but work for companies outside of the region. We work remote and often get lost behind a screen, but that doesn't mean we don't enjoy getting out and connecting with others in the community. And that is the spirit behind what we are building. On a mission to connect the local community while showing off the talent and resources we have right here in sleepy little Sarasota. So anyway... This is all a long way of saying I am excited about where we are headed and looking forward to sharing more about what we have planned next. A dozen companies and individuals have already stepped up to support the cause with their time, energy and dollars. But we need your help too. If you are interested in getting involved (or know anyone who might) feel free to reach out to any of the organizing committee to learn more about how we can get you plugged in. We're currently working to turn the group into a nonprofit and will be announcing broader membership options for individuals and businesses as we scale the efforts.
