What's it worth? - To work 100 days straight - with high level of service - up to 12 hours a day - in intense heat - (In 2024) When I see posts like these it shows how far the industry still has to come. The gap of understanding between people who work in the industry compared to those who write about it, market it and recruit for it is huge. It really is one of the most frustrating parts of working in hospitality. Yes it will get filled by someone, possibly not that well remunerated, questionable high standards of service as the weeks go on and a clear sign your recruiter and client have little thought on your welfare, health and people in general. This is just one example of hundreds posted each week. Especially as Summer season looms and demand increases. This is not a way of guaranteeing high levels of service. The concept of ‘inclusive language’ has been a significant factor over for me, with increasing focus over the past several years. During s discussion with a senior People Director last year, he indicated that changing as few as half a dozen words in a Job Posting, would increase their response rate from female applicants by an oder of magnitude (and this is just one example vector). This is significant! Most SMBs do not have deep knowledge of HR, nor dedicated HR individuals. How do Founders, and their senior team, ensure they are attracting, retaining, and motivating their best talent throught their spoken and written words?
