Take this in for a moment....recognize the significance of this moment. We are in the beginning stages of what will be called the biggest revolution in the history of sports. Rimpage is the NEW way (for EVERY basketball player on earth) to become a professional basketball player.

Making racket sports "approachable" has several benefits, as it encourages wider participation and promotes a healthier lifestyle. Here are some reasons why it's important to make racket sports approachable: 1. Inclusivity: By removing barriers to entry, such as cost and skill level, more people can participate, regardless of their background, age, or fitness level. This fosters a sense of inclusivity and diversity. 2. Confidence Building: Participation in racket sports can boost self-confidence as people learn and progress in the sport. This newfound confidence can extend to other areas of life. 3. Fun and Recreation: Ultimately, making racket sports approachable is about ensuring that people have opportunities to enjoy themselves, have fun, and engage in a recreational activity that brings joy to their lives. Much of our work involves analysing data to identify interesting real-world phenomena. In the spirit of the Australian Open, this week’s #chartoftheweek leverages point-by-point Grand Slam data to visualise the probability of serving an ace for first serves, by serve speed. Differences in Grand Slam court surfaces are immediately evident in the men’s results and the women’s. The slower, bouncier clay courts at the French Open appear to significantly reduce ace probabilities across the board. Another interesting observation is that ace probabilities are strictly increasing, even at the highest speed brackets for men and women. Ordinarily, one might expect the probability of aces to ‘diminish’ as the difficulty of serving accurately at higher speeds declines. The lack of such a trend may be evidence of selection effects in the data, where players with the ability to serve at the highest speed brackets have better serves than the average player. As is the case for many problems in economics, correlation does not necessarily mean causation. So while we can’t say that ‘higher serve speeds cause aces’, we can observe an association between the two events. #data #tennis #firstserve #grandslam #AustralianOpen

What is the best 16th hole in the world? As we near the end of our 18 hole round there are some great finishing holes that could go either way. Yesterday in our 15th hole challenge there were 4 amazing choices yet at the end of the day one clearly stood out amongst you. What was the course? Cypress Point with 54% of the vote. A great choice and one of my favourites. The ocean holes at Cypress are dramatic and today we are going to see if Cypress can go back to back with it also being featured amongst some tough competition. And I mean tough both in terms of visual beauty but also challenge. These are arguably 4 of the toughest holes we have featured. To the images: 1. Cypress Point - Monterey, CA. One of the hardest par 3’s going around 2. North Berwick - Scotland. Arguably the greatest green complex in the world 3. Royal Portrush - Northern Ireland.
