After a busy week of working and networking, including exhibiting at the Offshore Energies UK Breakfast Briefing on Tuesday and presenting at the OEUK Supply Chain Forum meeting later that morning, I’ve taken some time over breakfast this morning for some light reading 😉 Whilst we might not have all the answers at our fingertips as a sector and we will need to rely on common sense being more common in some parts of industry and government than others, we do have the capacity and capabilities to manage a balanced energy mix as we continue the transition journey. For customers and suppliers across a number of extended supply chains within the energy sector, many of the tools and techniques covered in the Paratus Commercial Services workshop really can make an immediate positive impact on the challenges we face as a sector. This morning’s reading further highlights the need for managing our supply and demand requirements effectively and efficiently. Remember, every single energy provider regardless of it’s market sector, is at the very least a tier 2 supplier (even to itself) and often much further along/down the extended supply chain. Preparing for events like this Summit is a lot more than just preparing key messages and compile the attendee list. It’s identifying key stakeholders (the who and why) for engagement across multiple businesses and opportunities; establishing engagement strategy (the what, where, when) to achieve the desired outcome; and equipping the team with the right tools (the how) for execution. All for the purpose of shaping the external environment and creating the necessary conditions for success. Perhaps deathly boring for some, and very exciting for me! As for the topic of this Summit, namely cross border CCS value chains in APAC, it is imperative we as a collective continue working on resolving the issues that are currently standing between us and the first ton of stored CO2 in 2030: 🔜 clear and compelling policy frameworks to drive CCS investments including Government to Goverment agreements underpinning cross border projects; 🔜 viable and robust partnerships and collaborate as an industry, as a region and as a collective including non-governmental organizations (think IMO) and societal groups; 🔜 driving innovations: technology (low pressure LCO2 transport), business models (tariffs/fees/levies) and regulations (liabilities, certifications, obligations) to name a few.

Together, we had the pleasure of discussing some of the most pressing topics affecting Europe today; energy independence and sustainability. In both arenas OMV Petrom plays a key role and is one of the companies making strong contributions to the RePowerEU objectives. OMV Petrom’s new gas field, Neptun, is a strategically important project for energy independence in Europe. With the addition of this project, by 2027, Romania will become the largest gas producer in the European Union and a top gas exporter. Gas, as a lower CO2 emission form of fuel, will compliment renewable energy to provide baseload generation to make the world greener. Today marks the first time Equinor and Linde have come together at the site in the port of Eemshaven. This is the site planned to be used for our joint investment in a 1GW low carbon hydrogen plant. Today, I had the privilege of discussing Aira's strategic expansion across Europe, with our sights set on international success. Throughout the discussion, I wanted to emphasise the urgency of taking Europe off gas. Burning fossil fuels is killing our planet and yet there is a simple alternative: making the switch to cleaner, greener heating solutions, such as heat pumps. This technology has long been tested and proven in the coldest and darkest corners of Northern Europe, making it a viable solution. The market opportunity is vast, with 130 million European households still relying on outdated oil or gas boilers. At Aira, we believe in making an affordable and accessible heating solution for consumers across Europe and accelerating the electrification of residential heating. Within ten years, we plan to serve 5 million European homes, providing many with a much-needed clean energy solution. 🍃 On Monday, 29 April 2024, the OLGA project organised a Workshop on Green Innovations Certification at Airports held in Paris. This workshop was organised in the framework of Work Package 8 - Exploitation and Technology Transfer and was hosted by ENGIE Lab Crigen, with the support of COMOTI - Romanian Research&Development Institute for Gas Turbines and Bureau Veritas Group.   🛫 The purpose of the workshop was to clarify the steps needed to be undertaken by airports, as part of the green certification journey, on topics ranging from waste to biofuels, hydrogen and sustainable aviation fuel. The event built upon existing knowledge and consolidated the information on the certification process itself while identifying gaps and addressing barriers in the process of Green Innovations Certification at Airports. Therefore, the participation of the OLGA airports - Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport (Groupe ADP), Milan Malpensa Airport (SEA Milan Airports), International Zagreb Airport Jsc. and Cluj Avram Iancu International Airport - together with other partners from Air France, Air Liquide, Infraplan Consulting LLC and Snam S.p.A.
