2024 is officially here and it's time to open the kimono. I'm going to use LinkedIn posts as entries for interesting things I see in the creative industry. It might be a tool, tech use cases, case studies, events, or just my POV on recent news. Last week, I was catching up on all things gen AI. I built some GPTs, read a couple of reports, and explored a ton. One of the most fun places I landed was Runway TV. Runway TV is a new platform showcasing an ever-expanding collection of AI-generated films, experiments, and stories from the Runway community and Runway Studios. It gave me a glimpse of where we are today with AI video generation and how much it has evolved since the boom of AI in early 2023 (who else can't forget Will Smith eating pasta?). There's no turning back, it will only keep getting better from here. I highly recommend you check it out if you haven't seen any AI-generated videos recently. You will be impressed with how far the tech has evolved in such a short period and how you can start piloting with your team today. Another thing to keep in mind: Runway recently announced a partnership with Getty Images to develop a new generative AI video model: Runway <> Getty Images Model (RGM). The model is legally compliant since the data is pre-licensed by Getty and highly creative and highly curated (different than the general-purpose models out there). What I like the most about this move is the fact they are going after Hollywood, advertising, and media sectors. The startup is clearly trying to penetrate the enterprise and become an entrenched part of the workflow in these target industries.

A big milestone for Visage Technologies in 2023 was the launch of Arbelle, our beauty tech brand designed to revolutionize the way beauty products are discovered, tried, and purchased using AI and AR technologies. We believe that beauty can mean many different things for different people, so the main values of Arbelle are personalization and diversity. Translating these values into technical solutions is challenging, as every detail counts. We built a shade recommender based on a robust skin tone estimation, and significantly refined our makeup try-on component to achieve a high level of realism in AR. AI right? It's everywhere but can we actually use it in the real events world and not just for low res visuals? Well, it turns out yes! Read on dear viewer... Here's a 'slightly!' reduced process of how we created some of the amazing graphics we used for Holly Johnsons UK Tour 'Blast'. Specifically, the track 'This was Me' taken from the 2021 film 'Everybody's Talking About Jamie' originally performed by Richard E Grant. The track portrays an older drag queen reflecting on fading memories of his past youth, beauty, the glamour, vibrancy of the 80's gay scene, the devastation the aids epidemic had on it and the incredible loss that followed. Yep all typical pop topics I know but an incredibly powerful track and with Holly's tour mix even more so. 'Perfume' and 'Atomic City' got the AI treatment too with exuberant bursts of tropical flowers and a 'Metropolis' styled metallic city scape respectively - and being able to 'imagine' and create with such spectacular results is absolutely the way forward for us.
