It was an incredible honor to be included in the 2024 Best Buddies in Virginia & DC Friendship Walk as the chairperson. The event was a huge success and an amazing experience. Sam was the Co-Grand Marshall for the event and was the #1 Student Fundraiser, raising over $5,500 for Best Buddies. In total, the event raised $380k to support programs for inclusive friendships, employment, and living for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The Total Wine & More Digital and Tech Inclusion Committee held its first fireside chat, encouraging team members to share life experiences with their colleagues. Thank you to the 75 team members who participated. At the age of 32, Reza Hosseinian immigrated to the United States from Iran. His story "From Majority to Minority" on the challenges he faced and how he has thrived in a new country was both enlightening and inspiring. "People often find common ground through shared experiences, such as working in the same office. However, true feelings of safety and acceptance within a group come from being heard without being judged", Reza. At one point in the chat, it was asked how many people in the room immigrated to the US and half the room raised their hands. A follow-up question, who were second generation immigrants and many more hands went up. We are fortunate to have such a diverse team that brings different perspectives from around the world. Special thanks to Reza, Negar Tehrani (who shared her experiences as a second generation immigrant from Iran), Dwight A. Phyall, PMP and Nikki F. Spriggs for their guidance, and the entire Inclusion Committee including Rajni Saund, Bridgette Thomas, Brian Vandegrift, Maritha Indurthy, Chris Mitts, and Shannon O'Connor. #inclusion #DEI #sharing #life #retail #growth #inspiration #totalwine
