Yesterday Wednesday 25 of April, CCATE received a visit from Latin American journalist Raúl Zabechi, who is a renowned chronicler of following social movements and popular education in Latin America. During his long career he has covered the Zapatistas of Chiapas, the popular university of Oaxaca, the Mapuche of Chile, and many other groups and movements. Visited CCATE to learn about our educational model based on community, art, media, culture, participatory research and popular education. During his visit he spoke with members of CCATE, he witnessed the family circle and we ended with a snack in the art gallery where he spoke with members of the artivists Diana Lugo and Lourde Flores. CCATE is one of his stops that he will make across the country to Los Angeles. He gave us a book of his authorship and told us that he indeed sees in CCATE the Zapatista roots of a community with a vision of justice and social transformation. Over the years CCATE has received revolutionaries of thought and action and we are happy that CCATE's message that an organized community can transform its environment is taken to the great homeland of Latin America. Strengthening Post-Secondary Institutions in Canada: A Call to Action The Challenge: Actions Against Post-Secondary Institutions Increasingly, post-secondary institutions in #Canada face significant #challenges. These actions include reducing #international student enrollment, revising the Post-Graduation Work Permit (#PGWP) program, and imposing domestic #enrollment caps on Private Career Colleges. Additionally, #faculty members are demanding greater #financial transparency from #administrations. These pressures underscore the need for #strategic solutions. Advocacy at the House of Commons On April 11, CAUT’s executive director, David Robinson, testified before the #HouseofCommons Standing Committee. Supported by Fabrice Colin, president, and Linda St-Pierre, executive director and chief steward of the #LaurentianUniversity Faculty Association on Finance, they advocated for Bill #C59. This proposed legislation aims to exclude post-secondary #education institutions from the Companies’ Creditors Arrangement Act (#CCAA) and the #Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act. Their advocacy highlights the #urgency of addressing institutional viability. Viable Solutions: Public-Private Partnerships and Alliances In the face of these ongoing struggles, we must explore viable options. One such option is the continued implementation of #3Ps (public-private partnerships) with appropriate #oversight. These #partnerships can enhance financial #stability and foster #collaboration between #educational institutions and industry #stakeholders. Additionally, organizations like #NCCanada are stepping up to facilitate #alliances among like-minded, #quality colleges. By sharing services—such as #recruitment, #student support, #compliance, and #career services—we can boost fiscal #sustainability. 🌐 The Way Forward Boosting post-secondary institutions’ financial viability will have a ripple effect. It will increase #confidence among #students, #faculty, #communities, and #industry partners. Moreover, it allows us to move away from reliance on legal #protections like those outlined in Bill C-59. Let’s collectively shape the #future of #education! #HigherEd #EducationAdvocacy #CollaborationMatters #QualityEducation #FinancialSustainability #Innovation #PostSecondary #Leadership #StudentSuccess #IndustryPartnerships #LinkedIn https://lnkd.in/g9Cnv3qF #HigherEducation #Collaboration #Innovation #StudentSuccess #WorkforceDevelopment #EducationMatters #PostSecondary #QualityEducation #Partnerships #LinkedIn #SMU

The EUVALWEB Chair Holder, Prof. Teresa RUSSO, is more than pleased with the outcome of the workshop 'The EU in Its International Institutional Relationships', held on December 4, 2023, at the University of Salerno. The workshop offered both national and Erasmus students of the International Organisation course (DSG UNISA) the opportunity to present their work on the relations of their chosen international organisation with the EU. We believe that the response of the students was amazing, as they showed initiative, critical sense, and resourcefulness to carry out the assigned task! Chair of International Law at Tilburg University, Visiting Fellow at Law Department of the European University Institute
Submit an abstract for our workshop in Stellenbosch, South Africa, 20-21 June: What is 'the Global'? Reassembling Legal Authority across Space and Time The concept of ‘the Global’ is taken-for-granted across much legal scholarship. Whether stated as global inequality, global markets, or the global south, the term is shrouded in absoluteness. In fact, re-examining the concept provokes intuitions that physicists and geographers are better consulted over public and private lawyers. Yet, ‘the Global’ is as much a historical, social and legal construction, as it is a geological thing. The core questions we aim to explore, across a variety of legal contexts, is: how do global spatiality and/or temporality become produced in particular legal projects or contexts? What implications do such insights have for our understanding of global boundaries in this century, and their corresponding practices of legal inclusion and exclusion? For example, while the legal globe can still be presented as consisting of 206 states, to what extent has this become an inadequate framing of legal bounding and boundaries on global scales today? What might we be missing out with state-centred parsimony? Please submit your 250-word abstract by no later than 25 March 2024 to [email protected] Further particulars in the attached CfP
