🏀"Influenced by my troubled past, I took it upon myself to become that leader and started running the program myself. Just getting that chance to actually do it, it was big for me. I would say I'm the perfect example. What I would say is, even if you could just help one kid, that's why these programs are so important."- Steffon Heyliger, Age 30 Steffon's journey from a program participant to a mentor is a testament to the life-changing impact of community support. Is your school a neighborhood school? Do partnerships in the community drive value for the students and families you serve? This week I had the opportunity to discuss the strategic role of community partnerships with Jemia Cunningham-Elder, CEO at North Lawndale College Prep in Chicago. We got into: - Evaluating community sentiment - What types of partnerships you might want to look for - Potential pitfalls when leveraging partnerships - Practical considerations for operationalizing programs/partnerships - How partnerships can offer unique opportunities otherwise not possible - The role of a leader/CEO in driving community engagement - much more! Give it a listen 🎧

Back in 2018, I first started to think about how we could get textbooks sitting unused in a class cupboard in London shared with a cash-strapped school in Yorkshire. After five years of hard graft, School Resources Exchange properly got going last year. While it has been challenging to say the least, it's also pretty amazing to be starting 2024 with a live service that is already being used by and helping hundreds of schools. The focus for this year is simple - help more schools. What we're doing is a no-brainer. It's a free service which can benefit every single school in the UK. The impact of sharing surplus items between schools is a genuine game-changer on so many levels. If you know someone connected to a school - a staff member, parent, governor, etc - be sure to tell them about us as it really could help them out enormously. 👇 The short video explains exactly what we're doing and how the service - a nationwide schools' circular sharing community - can benefit every single school in the UK. #schools #schoofunding #schoolresources #schoolbudgets #circulareconomy #communityimpact #secondaryeducation #primaryeducation #teachers #headteachers #slt #schoolbusinessmanagers
Last year our focus was on launching. This year we're excited to be growing our community and working in partnership with lots more schools. If you know someone who works in a school then be sure to tell them about us.

I’ve been wanting to visit We The Curious since moving to Bristol, and today I finally got the chance to! Having reopened after a fire tore through the building in 2022, I went over to find out exactly what visitors can expect - tune in to Love and Science on BCFM next Monday to hear what I got up to! #science #scienceradio #sciencecentre #wethecurious #bcfm #scienceeducation #sciencenews #bristol #bristolnews
And we're OPEN! After 2 years, 2 months and 22 days of being closed, our doors are finally open once again. We've made a lot of new friends while we've been closed, running activities and workshops in schools, libraries and community events across the city, but it's just wonderful to have our building back. To hear it come alive with the familiar sound of people having a great time together is just magic. Thank you to everyone who has supported us on this journey, and to our amazing, resilient staff and volunteers. Come and see us soon 😊🌈🚀 📷 Lisa Whiting
