The cynical use of selectively appropriated portions of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in the proposed NDIS Amendments Bill (2024) highlighted the extent to which this document can be manipulated and distorted by vested interests. The UNCRPD is the bedrock of the disability rights movement and should never be treated with this level of contempt. It is time for us to have a national conversation about how we incorporate the UNCRPD into law. The document included below is my reflection on why it is now time to take this step.
