I had an awesome conversation about automated e-grocery fulfillment with Ellen Brune, PhD of AutoStore™. In addition to non-food retailers like Best Buy, (OSE:AUTO) works with leading grocers like H-E-B, Giant Eagle, Inc., HMART, & Ahold Delhaize to automate the storage and retrieval of inventory for their online orders. In this episode, we talk about the decision point for grocery retailers to invest in automation and the resulting second-order effects. As Amazon and Walmart attack grocers' center aisle, non-perishable goods, there's a growing case for grocers to remove such low margin items from Class A urban real estate towards brownfield automated warehouses, focusing exclusively on higher-margin perishables like meat, dairy, and produce in their stores. Packsize to provide the solution to oversized boxes for consumer deliveries 📦 Walmart have recently collaborated with Packsize to design a machine to build on-demand, right-sized boxes aimed at providing Walmart customers with faster shipping and less waste. US innovation and automation senior vice-president Prathibha Rajashekhar commented: “By working with Packsize to develop the Ultra5 machine, we created an innovative packaging solution that tailors each box to the items we are shipping to customers. This eliminates unnecessary waste and improves the unboxing experience once the package arrives.” Packsize states that their new Ultra5 machine can produce up to 600 boxes per hour and reduces packaging waste caused by oversized boxes. It also reportedly negates void filler such as plastic air pillows, reduces shipping emissions and improves parcel logistics, enabling retailers to fit up to 33% more boxes on freight and delivery carriers. The Ultra5 also includes a ‘Flaps Down’ feature, allowing boxes to flow through the packaging process by placing a paper band around the flaps to secure them to the sides of the boxes. Collaborations like these show progress to producing boxes that fit to product size, avoiding wastage that we currently see on the whole within retail packaging deliveries. #walmart #packsize #collaboration

What’s the answer to labour scarcity in the face of overwhelming productivity demands? Warehouse operators are struggling to find labour, while consumer preference for the convenience of online retail and grocery shopping continues to grow. Without enough available operators, it’s become incredibly difficult – if not impossible – for warehouses and distribution centres to maintain productivity levels that meet the service level agreements necessary to keep customers happy. Read the white paper to learn more. #warehouse #solutions #labourscarcity #robot #picking
