#COP28 starts today. Climate change is moving faster than we are, and governments around the world have shown how off track they are from meeting promises to protect our world. There are solutions. We need to end the use of fossil fuels, help build low carbon climate resilient economies, and implement climate solutions that can halve emissions by 2030. This must be the moment where the world rallies to meet the climate challenge and restore our natural world for future generations. The second day started with the Eye opener session, where Gelencsér András gave a presentation on sustainability. Climate change is an extremely complex natural process, unimaginable in scale, consisting of elements that humans cannot influence and therefore cannot stop. The much-talked-about decarbonisation alone is not the answer, partly because it is not the only cause of warming, and partly because the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions is not progressing at the planned rate. #meksz #mekszconference2024 #eyeopener #sustainability

The OECS, represented by Crispin d’Auvergne, participated in a panel discussion, "Coordinating for greater ocean-based climate change ambition: A UN-Oceans perspective," at COP28. The oceans hold 60 times more carbon than the atmosphere and remove almost 30% of carbon dioxide emissions; hence, they are essential to dealing with climate change.
