Here's a glimpse into Mr Gorman's leadership philosophy: 1️⃣ Developing Leaders: It's not just about being a leader; it's about nurturing leaders who can steer the ship even in your absence. 2️⃣ Taking Calculated Risks: Risk-taking is integral to growth. Having a well-thought-out plan ensures that people look to you for guidance even in the stormiest of times. 4️⃣ Prioritizing Wellness: Both mental and physical fitness are non-negotiables for effective leadership. Staying fit ensures the resilience needed to navigate challenges with grace. 5️⃣ Decisiveness: In a fast-paced world, decisions often need to be made swiftly and with limited information. Embrace the uncertainty, make the call, and keep moving forward. As a student representative from the MSc Business Analytics program at Northumbria University, I've had the privilege of attending some enriching sessions recently, including the WILD (Women in Leadership Development) program and a workshop on "How to be a Team Player". These experiences have been incredibly insightful, and I'd like to share some reflections: 🌟 Leadership Development : The WILD program provided me with invaluable insights into leadership. I learned the importance of authenticity, resilience, and empathy in leadership roles. Understanding the diverse perspectives and experiences of others is crucial for effective leadership, and I'm committed to incorporating these principles into my approach. 🤝 Teamwork Skills: The workshop on "How to be a Team Player" was a game-changer for me. “It is a misconception that people fear change. People fear what they will lose in the change.” -Gonzaga University, Master’s of Organizational Leadership professor 💡 Just a few months ago, I bid farewell to this incredible team at Pacific University. In the 8 months we spent together, we accomplished so much and built many great memories. I was hired as the interim Chief People Officer to provide stability while the university searched for their next senior leader. What was originally a short 2-3 month project quickly grew into something incredibly meaningful as we managed through new challenges, implemented operational process improvements, and devised creative strategies for cultural impact. Much of what was accomplished came about through working with departments one on one to craft cultural improvements, provide enhanced support, and determine ways our team could be more strategic and intergrated into the wider university system. While change takes time, the fine tuning and progress we made had a lasting impact and set the programs up for continued success. Leading through change can be challenging, but having a dedicated, people-centric team working together made all the difference. ➡️ Adding to the original quote… In my experience, people crave change. There is power in change. Through embracing change we can reach new heights. And that is what myself and this team accomplished through embracing the discomfort, and ensuring a smooth transition to a new leader. The challenges can feel insurmountable, but through thoughtful dedication, listening to our people’s insights, and diving in, we always come out with improvements on the other side.
