PeelPioneers has developed a bio-refinery concept that transforms 🍊 orange peel waste into secondary raw materials. The company recovers orange peels from restaurants and supermarkets and converts them into dietary fiber, antioxidants, and oil for use in food, beauty, and household products. The remaining pulp is used for animal feed, ensuring that every orange peel is fully utilized. PeelPioneers is addressing the need to combat food waste. In the EU, over 58 million tonnes of food waste (131 kg/inhabitant) are generated annually according to Eurostat, with an associated market value estimated at 132 billion euros The company was founded in 2017 by Lindy Hensen, Bas van Wieringen, and Sytze van Stempvoort and opened the world's first orange peel factory in 2018 in Son, the Netherlands.
