Center for Biological Diversity’s Post

Meet Craig! He's one of the Amboseli-West Kilimanjaro elephants, a beloved and intensively studied population that range between Kenya and Tanzania. For 30 years these famed cross-border elephants have been safe from trophy hunters — but not anymore. Please take action to #SaveCraigAndCo. 🐘 🐘 🐘 https://biodiv.us/3VZjjLX The United States is the primary importer of Tanzanian elephant trophies. And at least one of five male elephants recently lost was killed by a Texas hunter. Shutting down the U.S. market could really help protect these elephants from trophy hunters' bullets. That's why we're asking you to tell U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Director Martha Williams to ban all imports of elephant trophies from the Amboseli-West Kilimanjaro elephant population. 🐘 🐘 🐘 https://biodiv.us/3VZjjLX

Humans continue to destroy our natural world including animals who feel empathy, establish relationships with meaning, and feel physical pain. If not for actual food, these actions are driven by insecurity or the need to dominate and control-which is really the same thing. All of this is beyond words...or ones not fit for this platform. I'll happily sign the petition and I apologize to all things and beings we harm, scare, or destroy for no justifiable reason --and as if it's only "our world". This includes these magnificent (and deeply feeling and intelligent) elephants. #notokay

I also will never understand why anyone would want to shoot such a magestic animal... There is definitely something wrong with some people. Yet, I attended a meeting some years ago in which Eastern-african protected-area managers mentioned that they relied on trophy hunters to pay exhorbitant amounts of money for some individuals in order to finance their conservation efforts. This meant that those animals that were no longer able to reproduce or were not a crucial member of the families were "offered" to trophy hunters and the money they received allowed the parks to maintain their conservation efforts. Any informed opinions on this matter?

Please take #SaveCraigAndCo. 🐘 🐘 🐘 https://biodiv.us/3VZjjLX Done !!! There are few places on Earth where you can glimpse one of the remaining Super Tuskers – the remnants of the world’s most majestic megafauna. https://tsavotrust.org/super-tusker-elephants-saving-the-last-of-africas-great-megafauna/ Tsavo, split between Tsavo East National Park and Tsavo West National Park as well as the various conservancies in and around it, is home to 13,000 elephants. These elephants make up 40% of Kenya’s entire elephant population. And within this 13,000 strong population, separated by herd allegiances, lone bulls, and a vast territory, are approximately 10 Super Tusker Bulls. In addition to these 10, there are approximately 33 Emerging Tusker Bulls: young males with the potential of being the next Super Tuskers. These beautiful, majestic, incredible and scary animals need our help. Not just with boots on the ground, but with severe global and political action – however difficult that may be.

As someone who supports ethical hunting as a humane method of harvesting meat for consumption, I’ll never understand why the hell anyone would ever wish to kill an elephant. The fact that people spend money to do this is astounding.

I never understood, why some people pay very large sums of money, to shoot and kill an animal for an adrenaline rush. That is a very sick adrenaline rush these people experience. These individuals have mental illness, and they are nauseating!!

How is this happening? Isn't that a violation of the Endangered Species Act?
