Today begins Eating Disorders Awareness Week, a nationwide initiative that seeks to illuminate the complexities of eating disorders, such as anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, binge-eating disorder, and similar conditions. The occasion underscores the significance of timely intervention, availability of care, and diminishing the stigma linked with eating disorders. According to the National Association of Anorexia Nervosa and Associated Disorders, approximately 30 million Americans live with an eating disorder. #eatingdisordersawarenessweek #eatingdisordersawareness

Eating Disorders Awareness Week (EDAW) runs from 26 February until 3 March 2024. 🔦This year we are shining a light on Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID). Over the next week, we will be addressing misconceptions about ARFID, giving you a better understanding of this eating disorder diagnosis through the perspective of people with a lived experience, clinical expertise, and research. If you think that you or someone you know may be experiencing ARFID, it is important to seek help immediately. The earlier you seek help the closer you are to recovery. Your GP is a good ‘first base’ to seek support and access eating disorder treatment. This often means not focusing on "exposure therapy" which can be extremely traumatic and instead building trust and safety around food, honouring sensory needs, and adjusting expectations of a "normal diet" with reasonable adjustments (such as supplements, reminders, regular tests, etc.). PMDD symptoms look like 👇🏽 April is PMD Awareness Month and so I am doing my bit so spread information on Pre-Menstrual Dysphoric Disorder which I was privately diagnosed with in 2023. What is Other Specified Feeding or Eating Disorder (OSFED)? Despite its lack of public attention, OSFED is actually the most common eating disorder diagnosis, representing an estimated 32% to 53% of all people with eating disorders. It was developed to encompass people who did not meet the full diagnostic criteria for anorexia nervosa or bulimia nervosa but still had a significant eating disorder.
