I'm curious about y'all's thoughts on #6: "They give every room they walk into a burst of energy." Is that implying extroverted tendencies or something else? Introverts can be awesome leaders and aren't necessarily walking bursts of energy.

Great list. I’ll offer two additional points: 1️⃣ I disagree with #2. Unless your leader imposes on your lunch break and forces you to meet, it’s nice to have a working lunch so you get things accomplished and enjoy each other’s company over a meal. 2️⃣ I’d add a 13th green flag (lucky #13?), “They advocate for you and say your name when visible projects and promotions come up - when you’re not in the room.” #leadership #leadershipdevelopment

Remember their birthdays and work anniversaries. Send a "thank-you" note now and then. Elevate their concerns and advocate for them. Introduce them to your network. Help them find a mentor if needed. Find out their goals and see how you can help with making them a reality.

Hmmm: bottom line for me is a leader is 1. Future focused ( therefore advocate of and  deliverer of change)  2. Has integrity ( espouses and lives the associated values 3. Has Courage ( will stand up for what is right even when it's against the grain)

The two other key green flags are 1. They show empathy and provide support where required 2. They understand team members goals/aspirations and provide development and mentorship

“In the discussion about top leadership qualities, I’d like to highlight a crucial ‘green flag’: Empathetic Listening. This isn’t just about hearing what team members say; it’s about actively engaging with their concerns and understanding their perspectives. Empathetic listening fosters a supportive environment where everyone feels valued and heard. It’s pivotal in building trust, enhancing team morale, and encouraging a collaborative atmosphere. Leaders who master this skill are often more effective in resolving conflicts, motivating their team, and driving meaningful progress. In my view, it’s an essential addition to any Top 12 list of leadership green flags.”

Great leaders also create opportunities that challenge their direct-reports, helping them to develop the experience and knowledge for their next role.

Three more Green Flags for consideration: 1️⃣They are 100% present in one on ones and group engagements. 2️⃣ They share your name for development and promotion opportunities. 3️⃣ They provide equitable recognition and rewards.
