This week U.S. Department of Energy (DOE)’s Industrial Efficiency and Decarbonization Office (IEDO) hosted a workshop seeking input on the pathways to decarbonizing industries. ‼️A key fact framing the workshop was that 60% of emissions reduction needed to achieve net-zero in heavy industries by 2050 will come from technologies that don’t yet exist or are in the development pipeline. 📣 IEDO announced the launch of a new vision study looking at the barriers, pathways, frameworks and sector-specific solutions to scaling decarbonization in the industrial sector, building on DOE’s industrial decarbonization roadmap and commercial liftoff reports. It was wonderful to join colleagues from across industry, academia, and civil society (including our friends at Great Plains Institute) at the workshop to discuss challenges and solutions that will feed into the study.
