Great insights about how #SMEs can become more #sustainable and #competitive, setting themselves up for long-term success.
UN Global Compact recenly developed a go-to guide for smaller companies to unlock the competitive advantages of embracing the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The key driver for integrating the SDGs in SMEs is: Internalising SDG-aligned goals and targets will help companies anticipate regulatory, policy, and market developments in a way that other sustainability frameworks cannot. Main benefits are: 1. Lower operational costs and risk 2. Strengthen customer loyalty 3. Unlock new revenue streams 4. Improve relations with employees, suppliers, and other stakeholders SDGs integration in SMEs is a hot topic for Italian SMEs, and this is covered by research project "Italian Sustainability SME Observatory" I am conducting with Professor Paolo Taticchi, OMRI at UCL School of Management, sponsored by Tecno and KPMG Italy. 🎓 Sustainability reporting assurance is of crucial importance in fostering trust between organizations and their stakeholders. Our new paper delves into the impact of #SustainableDevelopmentGoals on European Union companies' decisions regarding sustainability reporting assurance, prior to the introduction of the #CorporateSustainabilityReportingDirective. 💡 The study, which uses a dataset of 960 EU-based companies spanning from 2020 to 2022, emphasizes the significance of integrating #SDGs into the array of determinants influencing sustainability reporting assurance. Company leaders are encouraged to redouble efforts towards achieving SDGs, potentially paving the way for increased assurance adoption. Big thanks to co-authors Ewelina Zarzycka and Pawel Zieniuk!
