🌟 Wonderful school partners hosted recent orientations for the NOLA Tutor Collaborative at four school sites this semester. These orientations have been incredibly inspiring and have reinforced my belief in the potential of our future leaders. The young individuals participating in this program exhibit not only kindness but also a strong eagerness to learn and grow. They are diligently mastering essential skills such as time management, tutoring, and serving as positive role models for middle school students. Witnessing their ability to form meaningful connections and make a significant impact in just one semester, each semester, has been truly heartening. What particularly excites me about coordinating this program is the consistently strong data we see from our high-impact tutoring efforts. Tutoring sessions bring about tangible improvements in the lives of our students, and it's immensely gratifying to observe this progress firsthand. Recent insights suggest that in the next 6 to 10 years, Gen Z may constitute up to 30% of the workforce. Rather than viewing this demographic shift as daunting, I choose to see it as an opportunity for positive change. Young people are raising the bar with their standards and expectations, not only for themselves but also for future generations. As we navigate this evolving landscape, let's embrace change with open arms and work together to create inclusive and empowering work environments. By championing values such as kindness, inclusivity, and excellence, we can collectively shape a brighter future for all. And I can’t be more thankful for the wonderful school leaders I see in action, modeling true leadership day in and day out, ensuring these young people, tutees and tutors, have the most impactful experience. 💪🏽✨ Check out the post below sharing a few photos from our recent orientations. CarolinaTIP provides a formula that works! We aim to empower teachers by growing their self-efficacy, cultivating their leadership skills, and providing a community for continued learning based on the understanding that these attributes will help keep teachers in the profession – and our successes are backed by research.   In a recent report by USC’s Research, Evaluation, and Measurement (REM) Center, teachers in the CarolinaTIP 2022 Year 1 cohort reported increases in their overall self-efficacy, classroom management efficacy, instructional strategy efficacy, and student engagement efficacy from Fall 2022 - Spring 2023.   In addition, based on self-reported data from the end of the spring 2023 semester, the overall professional retention rate for all CarolinaTIP participants for the 2022-2023 school year is above 90% for the sixth year in a row. We are absolutely making a positive impact in the area of teacher retention in South Carolina. #SCEducation #SCTeachers

What has happened to the level of involvement in our local PTAs? Many point to the pandemic as the culprit for declining membership. Looking at the numbers, however, demonstrates that involvement was down even before Covid struck. We are always looking to make sure that every child involved in our PE lessons get the most out of them as possible. We aim to do this through our bespoke curriculum, unique to every school. Our aim is to use sport to change the lives of the young people we work with, and we realise that every child is different and we try to vary our approach to ensure each child is empowered within their lessons. "Focus on the strong, not the wrong" is a term we use with our staff to enable children to have that sense of empowerment Highlighting successes and helping young people to see what they have done well. By praising young people for making positive decisions and developing their skill set, we are actively supporting their development through positive engagement. We should be highlighting their successes no matter how big or small.

Time and resources make a difference.   This week's 6 word post… This year, in lieu of a "one size fits all" professional development plan, my school’s professional development committee (made up of administrators and teachers) created a new plan. Teachers are choosing their own professional development paths this year. Earlier this month, I took a professional development day, and dove into Modern Classrooms Project self paced curriculum. I was given time to pursue my interests based on my self identified needs, and Modern Classrooms Project made their curriculum available free of charge to all. I have now improved myself as a professional.  These pieces allowed for forward momentum: *Shared leadership- teachers and administrators making the decision to change how professional development works at our school  *Honoring people’s time *Readily accessible quality materials Thank you to Modern Classrooms Project for their quality resources. Real teachers, sharing about their work, offering real solutions made this a training I am already implementing. It has made a difference in my classroom.

Taking place this December 9-11th, 2024 at our learning site, Community Roots, the Institute offers teams of 3-5 from a school site the opportunity to explore the theory and practice around the elements of our Anti-Bias Education Framework while building an anti-bias lens to curricula and learning how to develop staff to be leaders in this work.
