#Patientsafety is a fundamental aspect of healthcare aimed at preventing harm to patients during the provision of #medicalservices. It encompasses a culture of transparency, accountability, and continuous learning within #healthcareproviders keeping a close focus on #practiceguideline #protocols to ensure strict adherence to infection control practices, hospital-acquired infections, including proper hand hygiene, #sterilization of equipment, and #isolationprotocols, also involves #medicationsafety to safeguard the medication process, including accurate prescribing, dispensing, administration, and #patienteducation regarding medications and use of #digitalhealth systems designed to provide high-quality care that minimizes risks, minimize #medicalerrors such as medical record errors, surgical mistakes, diagnostic errors, and doctor-patient miscommunication. When patient safety is put at the front we are sure to have #improvedoutcome & enhanced overall #patientexperience and ensure the well-being of patients in healthcare settings. lastly, healthcare workers' #wellbeing needs to be continuously addressed to prevent #burnout and fatigue, which can contribute to errors, and also the endorsement of tech-driven #ehealth platforms & systems such as Ponea Health & MYDAWA can enable #automation of patient-doctor journey alongside equipping them with #digitaltools for patients to seek quality care discreetly and upholds #patientconfidentiality and #professionalism. #PatientSafety is a commitment we all need to continuously uphold and carry forward. Healthcare professionals understand the importance of providing safe and effective care to patients. However, did you know that hospital acquired infections (HAIs) cost the UK healthcare system an estimated £1 billion every year? This staggering statistic highlights the impact of HAIs on not only our patients' well-being, but also on the financial burden it places on our healthcare system. These infections not only prolong hospital stays and increase treatment costs, but also lead to additional strain on our already stretched resources. It is imperative that we continue to prioritize infection control measures and work towards reducing the occurrence of HAIs. This includes proper hand hygiene protocols and effective disinfection technology. Together, we can make a difference in preventing HAIs and creating a safer healthcare environment for our patients. Let's continue to raise awareness and implement best practices to combat this costly issue. sis-innovations.co.uk #HAIawareness #patientcare #healthcaresolutions

Did you know a recent retrospective cohort study in German ICUs has concluded that patients cared for in ICU single rooms or bays without sinks have fewer HCAIs? Jon Otter outlines the study in his recent reflections blog. Waterless solutions for both hand hygiene and bathing provide an alternative to the traditional approach of using soap and water with washcloths and towels. Not only does using a waterless solution increase operational efficiency, but it also provides a better experience for both patients and healthcare workers. We have a variety of different waterless solutions available: 💧Hygea Hand Wipes 💧Hygea Full Body Washcloths 💧Hygea 4% Dimethicone Continence Care Personal Washcloths 💧Hygea Hands & Face 💧Prevantics 2% CHG Washcloths Read the full article here: Water-free critical care demands our attention | Reflections on Infection Prevention and Control (reflectionsipc.com) To receive complimentary samples of our waterless solutions, contact us at [email protected] #waterless #bethedifference #hcai #infectionprevention #ipc

Although Semmelweis’ disovery was over 175 years ago, hand hygiene compliance remains 40-50% in hospitals. When we tell stories of how a lack of hand hygiene affects patients, many are shocked. Still today, in supporting a hospital-wide hand hygiene program, infection preventionists are faced with a culture of non-compliance, many needing supporting evidence to participate—“show me where we have had an infection in my clinic/unit/practice that is a direct result of hand hygiene non-compliance”. The easiest way to PREVENT HAIs, proven by Semmelweis, is now faced with a culture of doubt and pushback on the basics. There has to be a better way. ✨How many of you have faced this type of pushback to hand hygiene compliance and hand hygiene observations? ✨ 🦠🧫🧼 #apic #handhygiene #infectionprevention #semmelweis
Ignaz Semmelweis: The Father of Hand Hygiene Today, we celebrate Ignaz Semmelweis, a pioneering figure in medical history whose groundbreaking work in hand hygiene has saved countless lives. In the 1840s, while working at the Vienna General Hospital, Semmelweis observed a high mortality rate among women due to puerperal fever. He noticed that doctors often moved from autopsies to childbirth without washing their hands, spreading deadly infections. Semmelweis introduced a simple yet revolutionary practice: washing hands with chlorinated lime. This drastically reduced mortality rates from 18.3% to 1.3%, proving the importance of hand hygiene in preventing infections. Despite facing resistance and skepticism from his contemporaries, Semmelweis's persistence paved the way for modern infection control practices. Today, we honor him as the Father of Hand Hygiene, recognizing his vital contribution to patient safety and healthcare. Let's remember the power of small actions and continue advocating for hand hygiene to keep our communities safe. 🧼👐 #InfectionPrevention #HandHygiene #MedicalHistory #PatientSafety #HealthcareHeroes

CNM2, Infection Prevention and Control. Fellow, Association of Professionals in Infection Control (FAPIC). International Board Certified Infection Control Preventionist. ASQ-CQIA
Since the beginning, Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) has been a challenging task, Ignaz Semmelweis was even confined to psychiatric ward believing he is out of line and out of mind to even think that infections can come from the people who made their Hippocratic oath to do the sick no harm… we as IPC always talk about hand hygiene, PPE use, isolation, patient placement and in my last 19 years of IPC practice, despite my certifications, post grad education, training, experience ~ there will always be people who challenges the concept of IPC. However, the COVID19 pandemic has proved what we have been saying all along. IPC, we are not enemies, we are ur friends, we collaborate, we cooperate, we are here to keep our colleagues, our patients and our visitors and most importantly our families are safe and sound, infection-free. Even when every body doesn’t want to be saved, that’s our responsibility. I’ve been asked what I’m paid for, I would like to think, I’m paid to try to do infection prevention and control. I love this job! #ipclife #infectionpreventionandcontrol #infectionprevention #infectioncontrol

We all owe Thanks to Semmelweis for recognizing a problem and coming up with a solution. It is interesting that, "Despite facing resistance and skepticism from his contemporaries, Semmelweis's persistence paved the way for modern infection control practices". I can relate. I have been involved in developing and mfg. ABHR for 30 years and have been searching for ways to improve ABHR'a lack of Non-Enveloped Viral efficacy and the dermal damage it causes by dissolving the lipid barrier of the skin that makes users more susceptible to pathogen transmission. The Solution is HOCI. I have been facing resistance and skepticism here in the US, similar to what Semmelweis faced, even though the UK and Europe use HOCI for Hand and Surface Sanitization that does have Non-Enveloped Viral efficacy and can heal hands from damage caused by ABHR. The obstacles from the CDC, FDA, Healthcare C-Suite and companies that mfg. ABHR and their so-called safety experts in both Healthcare and Food Service are doing a huge disservice to everyone who works in or frequents healthcare, food service and education, putting them at risk. But like Semmelweis I am persistent and will keep talking about S-HOCI which is the only HOCI that is an EPA registered Hospital Disinfectant and Food Surface Sanitizer as well as an FDA-Cleared No-Rinse Antimicrobial Hand Cleanser with testing that validates Non-Enveloped Viral efficacy and can promote healing skin damaged by ABHR. I would appreciate assistance from anyone who wants to see hand hygiene improved to a level that compliance increases without using compliance detection systems that are starting to resemble "Big Brother".
