I’m 7 weeks into my new career with Axon and I’m loving it! Here’s a little recap: I’ve been traveling to numerous cities meeting with clients and getting to know my team members. Everyone has been incredibly accepting and have always gone out of their way to help me learn. Unfortunately, five weeks into my new employment, my wife and I lost our baby. In response, my leadership team immediately offered me whatever time off I needed, constantly checked in with me, and sent my wife flowers and meals. My wife and I spoke about this often and were in shock at how well we were treated with being so new to the company. What other words can you use to describe this except for, “WOW” - It’s something I will be forever grateful for and I can only hope to lead in the same capacity. It’s by far the best decision I’ve made to make the jump. The benefits are extremely good, but for me, the work culture is everything!!!!!! From 2022 to 2023 TouchPoint hired 1,332 new associates. What could prompt the hiring of so many new associates? Promotions, of course! After all, someone has to fill those recently vacated positions. Things at Unify are in full sprint. Q1 was massive, we grew new revenue bookings +277% from Q4 2023. Things are only accelerating—and learning how to navigate these early stages as a founder has been an experience. Wanted to share a few of the things I’m doing to keep my mental & physical health in check even as the schedule fills up with demos: One habit I try to stick to is light work Saturday. No meetings, minimal work in general. I let myself prioritize things outside of work on Saturdays. This gives me time and mental headspace to dedicate to my family, friends, my dog Chili, and personal life in general. Not going to lie and say I’m perfect here, but its a goal to strive for. I do therapy pretty much every week. Having a dedicated space to share ups and downs helps keep me more sane outside of that hour. 🙂 On the Unify side, we're laying the team foundations that can help Connor Heggie and I spread our wings as we grow. Last week I spent 1-2 nights mapping out roles and responsibilities that I have today and which I should be hiring for in the future. For the last 14 months, I’ve been a super-powered IC. I went through the same transitions as I grew internally at Ramp. Excited to see it happening already at Unify. My #1 goal today: level up into more of a strategic role so we can expand our product to grow as quickly as we have been 🚀 How do you manage stress?

As part of the Meta layoffs we received 6 months of fully paid insurance. The 6-month mark for me lapses at the end of January. For those still out of work I would highly encourage you to check out your states healthcare marketplace. You probably don't need these Cadillac plans. I'll be hopping over to my partner's plan. The one piece of information that I am waiting on is whether I need to switch January 1st or whether the loss of subsidized Cobra policy qualifies as a life event to allow switching. It is only a month so probably not worth the headache... but could be a consideration. The marketplace is also important for those thinking about FIRE. It is one way to estimate your future health care costs. That remains one of the major wildcards in many calculations. Across availability, potential subsidies, the costs are ever variable.

Time for a change? Maybe! Happy new year LinkedIn. As we start the year 2024, I have done some career evaluation and it feels like I haven't found home in my career path, what does this mean? It means I am interested in starting out on a different path this new year. A customer 'facing' role so integral that it shapes product direction - CUSTOMER operations! I have cumulative 3 years experience working as a customer service officer in a telco and a commercial bank so I truly understand the rudiment of dealing with 'difficult and angry customers' while I have transitioned into product management after my CS experience, I believe I am now better equipped to shape processes for building a product that doesn't just solve a problem based on CEO'S perception but based on actual users feedback, pain point and churn point. It may interest you to know that I have a wide range of experience building products from ideation to post launch across many tech industries since I worked at tech agencies. A client was always "late to everything". Late to meetings, late to pay, late to X. Naturally, I told him to f*** off, ridicule him on LinkedIn, and never come back. Well, not quite. Because he was humble about it, and explained the difficult context he was in. In 2021, he ended up closing a 6-figure ARR deal with us despite low engagement. In 2023, he came back to me to collaborate again. He ended up investing 5x more with us in 2023+2024 than before. So yes, be strict on disqualifying clients that are quite frankly a**holes. But also be human about people you believe in to help them out? Because that is what you are paid to do. In this case 5x more than otherwise. Yes, it took 3 years for "Round 2". But we're playing infinite games here, right?
