As many of you know, I am a Palestinian lawyer living and practicing in Atlanta, Georgia. When I was nominated for Top 40 Under 40 by Georgia State University, there were over 100 lawyers, professors, and judges who signed a letter calling me anti-Semitic and unworthy of the award. I shared this news on my Instagram page, and within an hour I received the attached hateful text message. This is what it’s like being a Palestinian lawyer in America who stands against the genocide of innocent people. Needless to say, these lawyers will not be invited to my upcoming summit in November.

Today we settled a case for $350,000 after the first attorney tried to convince the client it was worth WAY less. This happens all the time. The truth is: most lawyers either don’t know how to do personal injury correctly or they don’t know where to get educated properly. Law school doesn’t teach you this stuff. So here are some numbers to pay attention to, so you can gauge the effectiveness of your practice. Note- this applies mainly to prelitigation cases with policy limits of $250k or less: 1) Tender rate = the percentage of cases for which you receive full policy limit tenders (ours hovers around 70% presuit, but any number above 50% is above the national average) 2) Shelf life = the length of time the case stays in your firm from open to close (clients don’t usually need more than 2-3 months of treatment unless they’re surgical, neurologically impaired, or have other permanent injuries; so most cases should settle in 4-6 months, but anything under 11 months is better than average firms) 3) % to client = the percentage of the total settlement that the client receives; we track this number heavily and the goal should always be for the client to make more than everyone else. If you’re consistently settling cases where the client nets lower than you or the medical providers, you’re not doing it right. What other numbers do you like to track?

My mom showed me a video of my Uncle Saeed in Gaza today. His name means “happy” in Arabic. He was dead. Israel bombed his home while he was sleeping. I recognized the same facial features that my brothers and I all have: prominent nose, deep eye sockets, and olive skin. His death didn’t haunt me as much as I thought; I’d seen thousands of these videos and become accustomed to it. What stuck with me the most was how old he looked for being such a young man. I hope every American knows that the $3.5 billion in taxpayer money that was just approved for Israel went directly to kill my family.

There’s a foolish division in the personal injury industry. Marketers vs. Litigators I spent the first few years of my career hanging around litigators. The amount of shit-talking about legal advertisers is INSANE. I always wondered why they hated marketers so much. Then I became a marketer. And I realized it’s because there’s an ego issue surrounding what “real lawyering” looks like. You see, litigators love the courtroom. They thrive on going to trial. The live for the verdict. Marketers just like to bring the cases in. They’re WAY better at business, customer service, scaling, and strategic growth. And they have no interest in being the best trial attorney in the world. It’s a totally different game. But if you’re the best lawyer in the world, yet no one knows that you exist… then are you really the best lawyer?

You’re not special. Overcoming adversity is normal. Nothing you ever achieve will be even remotely close to the faith and fortitude of Palestinians right now. All of your suffering combined in a lifetime pales in comparison to a single day of a child in North Gaza. The fear that holds us back is foolish in the grand scheme of things. So spend more time in prayer and worship, protect your family, work hard, be bold, and thank God everyday for the blessings you’ve been given.
