Here are a few key takeaways that I found particularly impactful: - Don't be afraid to offer free support to your clients until they feel compelled to pay you. - The key to a successful company is its people. Building strong relationships with founders, clients, investors, and workers is crucial. - No matter how big your company gets, putting 100% of your effort into customer support is always worth it. - Clearly and concisely describe what your company does in a way that even those outside your industry can understand. Technology hasn’t just changed the way we live and work but it has also given a new twist to our everyday language. I was flying back to Guernsey today, watching the sky pass by through the window, and I couldn’t help but chuckle at how when I think of the word ‘cloud’, the first thing that comes to mind isn't what I could see. To pass the time I started a list of some other words that have taken on new meaning for me since becoming a woman in data. 𝐏𝐲𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐧 is not a snake. 𝐏𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐬 are not bears. 𝐒𝐨𝐮𝐩 is not a favourite winter dish. A 𝐛𝐮𝐠 is not an insect. A 𝐬𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐤 is not related to fire or electricity. A 𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐬𝐞 is not a building. A 𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐞𝐫 does not work in a restaurant. You don’t 𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐞 coal. 𝐂𝐨𝐨𝐤𝐢𝐞𝐬 don’t come in a 𝐛𝐚𝐭𝐜𝐡. You don’t 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐦 water. A 𝐃𝐚𝐬𝐡𝐛𝐨𝐚𝐫𝐝 doesn’t just show your mileage. I could go on. I wonder what words will be next to have a new tech meaning!
