A plug for some students I met at the UK #Jessup rounds last weekend. Students who do the Jessup (and especially those who do well) rarely need much help getting their first gig in #disputes #arbitration #PIL etc, because it's so well known as an incubator of the sort of young lawyers that partners love - bright, team players, can craft arguments, unafraid of hard work.  Opinions will vary re which of those qualities is most highly prized. But anyone looking at intern/grad/NQ CVs needs to pay special attention to anyone with Jessup from the pandemic era, whether or not they were one of the teams that managed to qualify for the upcoming (remote) international rounds.  These students put themselves through months of pain on a fake legal dispute, without even the potential carrot of a trip to Washington if they did well enough.  You want to interview these people. (And yes I was also delighted/privileged/honoured/stoked to be able to catch up with my fellow Jessup community types (who I am relying on to 'like' this) and judge some strong and creative teams, including an incredibly close and high-standard bronze medal match together with Malcolm Forster and Luciana Ricart. Thanks and congrats to Andrew Holmes and Laura Hughes-Gerber for managing to put on a safe and successful competition in-person at Lincoln's Inn, as well as to all of the underappreciated coaches who facilitated the learning, in what is hopefully the last Jessup of the pandemic era...)

Eid Mubarak to all celebrating.

This was different to my usual Friday. Many thanks to the organisers at the International Law Association British Branch for the invitation, and to my co-panellists Christian J. Tams Serena Forlati and moderator Matthieu Burnay for the discussion.

So I was #delighted to have the chance to judge a bunch of moots at the #Jessup this year, including seeing some outstanding teams over the elimination rounds. Ought to be a pretty good final tomorrow: https://lnkd.in/eqXQKBe Results aside the Jessup is an incredible learning exercise and it never gets old seeing the output of a team's many months of hard work. This has been a different year to those past and hopefully to any coming for a while, and this year's competitors (and their coaches) should be particularly proud. While everyone looks forward to being able to hold these sort of events in person again, shifting to remote hearings did give the ideal kickalong to me (and I know many other past competitors) to finally come back to one of the international rounds, albeit from home rather than Washington.
