Sacrificing #safety on the altar of fetishized #innovation has long become a trend...💡 Putting the #lobbying interests of the #selfdriving car #industry first, with almost non-existent oversight and no concern for the consequences when they ultimately involve... human lives, is the norm in the #US (and lately the #EU has decided to follow suit..). Here is the most interesting takeout : " Every single #China #robotaxi apparently has a remote driver. Full time, paying attention not someone who's answering when the car calls for help, giving it help, but like a full time remote person with a steering wheel and a brake pedal. Not remote-operated but #safety drivers ready to jump in as soon as need it." a diametrically opposite approach of that of the #US. Vision-Language-Action Model (VLAM) LINGO-1 is described as a vision-language-action model (VLAM) that aims to revolutionize the learning and explainability of autonomous driving systems. Traditional end-to-end AI neural networks used in self-driving cars have been criticized for their "black box" nature, which offers limited insight into the decision-making processes. LINGO-1 addresses this issue by incorporating language, allowing the model to explain the reasoning behind its driving actions. Training and Capabilities The model is trained using real-world data collected from Wayve drivers who provide commentary as they drive. This innovative approach allows LINGO-1 to explain its decisions and actions by incorporating language, providing a new type of data for interpreting, explaining, and training AI models. LINGO-1 can respond to questions about a wide range of driving scenarios, enabling Wayve to make improvements to the model through feedback. Enhancing Safety and Trust By combining language models with visual models, LINGO-1 can offer textual explanations for its driving decisions, similar to a human driver or driving instructor. This capability is expected to increase the sense of safety among passengers and contribute to the overall safety of autonomous vehicles. The model's ability to reason textually through traffic scenarios not included in the training data is a key feature that could significantly enhance the safety and reliability of self-driving cars. Training Efficiency and Performance LINGO-1's design allows for flexible adjustments through simple text prompts and can be trained with additional examples written by humans without the need for extensive visual data collection. This approach could alleviate the bottleneck caused by the limited supply of video data for training AI models on different traffic situations. As of the latest updates, LINGO-1 achieves 60% of the accuracy of human drivers, with its performance more than doubling since initial testing. Referential Segmentation A notable feature of LINGO-1 is its "show and tell" capability, enabled by referential segmentation.
