This week its all about the "intractable" in Firedrake, my VR interactive novel. Its not the fanciest interaction, but here is an simple example of the lore tables. You'll have to find these 12 tablets that all tell some background lore that plugs into the story. I wanted something the player would have to manipulate in VR. Oniri is going to be a middle way between a 3D Application and a virtual tour, trying to take the best from both worlds. As it would be possible to see in the following video, it is a real 3D model where you can move in 6DOF (and in this way to have also a real VR experience) but with the simplicity of creating a virtual tour. Here is my open source OpenXRHandTracking plugin, used to help with Pinch, Gestures and hand rendering in the GunSpinning VR remake (Unreal Engine 5). The hand tracking stability on the Meta Quest 3 is incredible, even with very fast movements. Next step is to try that on the Apple Vision Pro :-) Behind the scene, on VisionOS, it's ARKit that handles hand tracking, but calls are forwarded by Unreal to OpenXR. That way building a VR app in Unreal is the same for every platforms (PC, Quest and Vision Pro). #gamedev #handtracking #ue5 #cpp #applevisionpro
