Congratulations to Catherine Sweat (McDougle Middle School), honored with our Mentor Teacher Spotlight for the month of April. Catherine's nomination was shared by Sarah Landis, a beginning teacher she mentors: “Catherine is already mentor of the month because of her steadfastness. The end of the year at our school has pitched us one curveball after another. On top of processing stressful events, end-of-the-year testing, field trips, schedule changes, illnesses, etc... for herself, she has helped me navigate them. It feels like every situation I have found myself in is unique and we say, "this is a new one." When I had an issue with a student saying inappropriate things, she dropped everything and we handled the situation right away with admin. She didn't just take charge either- she asked what I wanted to do and made sure I had her support and reassurance along the way. When we had a difficult situation arise at our school, she was there to support my decisions. These are only two examples of my mentor leading me through challenging moments with her guidance and strength, but also encouraging my autonomy.” Our district is better and our students benefit from your work and leadership, Catherine!

Fantastic day of delivering SF training today with Anne Manning. We spent a lot of time focusing on the stance and the assumptions of the approach. Some of the favourites of the group were: -change is constant and inevitable -the future is both created and negotiable -there isn't necessarily a logical connection between the problem and the solution -people have their own good reasons for doing what they do Beyond a list of statements, we talked a lot about how holding on to these impacts on how we view people, how we hear things and the questions we then ask. We are far more likely to accept, acknowledge and listen while still being able to challenge or name things we might be worried about. What is your favourite SF assumption or the one that helps you most in your work? Can't wait for day 2 next week! #solutionfocused #sfbt #socialwork #supportingstaff #connections #essex #ESFC #sfassumptions #sfstance #supervision #coaching

𝑰𝒏 𝑺𝒐𝒖𝒕𝒉 𝑨𝒇𝒓𝒊𝒄𝒂, 60% 𝒐𝒇 𝒄𝒉𝒊𝒍𝒅𝒓𝒆𝒏 𝒈𝒓𝒐𝒘 𝒖𝒑 𝒘𝒊𝒕𝒉𝒐𝒖𝒕 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒊𝒓 𝒃𝒊𝒐𝒍𝒐𝒈𝒊𝒄𝒂𝒍 𝒇𝒂𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒔. This gap in positive male role models drives my commitment to coaching. To address this, I'm hosting a camp focused on shaping young men to embody accountability, discipline, leadership, and teamwork. This year’s experience with my first team boys, some of whom have troubled backgrounds, has been a journey of mutual growth. Every journey from Stellenbosch to Strand, each hour spent on the hockey field and preparing presentations, is more than training. My aim is not just to develop their skills on the field, but to equip them with essential life values. To further this goal, the camp from January 11-15th aims to deepen their personal and team development. Hosting 20 boys, this camp is envisioned as more than a training camp. The goal is to challenge them and expand their potential. With the help of seasoned leaders I've met, we're working to guide these young men into future responsible fathers, loving husbands, and community leaders. Your involvement can greatly enrich this initiative. I'm committed to providing a transformative experience without imposing financial stress on the families. With a fundraising target of R10,000, your support in any form has the potential to shape these young men's futures. If this mission resonates with you, I encourage you to reach out to me or repost this. Every player we uplift creates a ripple of positive change. Through your support, we can initiate this journey, impacting our community one step, one player, at a time.

Ex Professional Footballer and Police Officer specialising in Confidence, Communication, and Performance development- 'Passionate about growing Individuals and creating Cultures'.
Why is individual confidence my starting point when building company culture? This is the Sheffield Wednesday youth team 1996/97. Training every day with the likes of Des Walker, David Hirst and Chris Waddle. (forgive me for reminiscing on the premier league days, it's been a while!) We were a group of talented individuals, but had a team dynamic and culture so toxic, it's no wonder performance suffered, and morale went through the floor. It would be easy to point towards poor communication as the root problem, as this did heavily contribute to the high levels of conflict, and subsequent loss of anything remotely symbolising team dynamic. But the reality- Too many fragile egos, and individual lack of confidence and self-belief, which meant any form of criticism or negative feedback resulted in tears, tantrums, defensive behaviours, and blaming everybody else! Professional sport may seem like an extreme example, but is it that different to your team or company? The common denominator is people, it always is- So that is where we must start! By providing employees with the skills and knowledge needed to develop and grow as individuals, the foundations are put in place to ensure positive change in all areas of life. ______________________________________________________________ Whenever you are ready, I can help you in 3 ways- 1. DM me and request further information on my services 2. Schedule a zoom call so I can answer any questions you may have 3. Ready to go? Book me to attend and deliver the ‘DISC culture builder workshop’ #personaldevelopment #confidencebuilding #teambuilding

It's Sunday evening. School leaders, have you set your intention for the week? Ten years ago I would have been pouring over final drafts of lesson plans, doing an all-call for teachers to know they have one more hour before we shut down the building, helping with bulletin boards, updating changes to the dismissal plan, responding to last minute emails from 2 different entities to whom I reported, making sure I had my own children's clothes laid out and breakfast ready, and any number of additional tasks that make the upcoming week of school stressful for school leaders. As leaders, many of us shift into first responders during the first few weeks of school. We literally walk the building looking for the "hot spots." The anxiety of leading a "search and rescue" operation carries over long after you know everyone is safe. Many of us default to that style of leadership because we haven't set clear intentions for ourselves in alignment with our values. We've set goals, but not intentions. For example, we may aim to visit every classroom for 15 minutes during the first week of school, but what's your intention behind the visit? I have a strong core value of GROWTH. One idea is to visit classrooms of returning teachers looking for growth in how they started the year last year and how they are starting this year. Do you hear more confidence in their voice? Are they intentionally laying a foundation for a more productive classroom climate based on their struggles last year? When dropping in on new teachers take note of what you see the first day and then drop back in at a different time to look and listen for growth. Tip: Carry sticky notes. Try to never leave a classroom without leaving the teacher a note about at least one good thing you see. The mind starts to create stories for things that are not made clear immediately. Don't create unnecessary stress for teachers. What is your core value and how will you be intentional about it this week? Former school leaders (and other leaders), share your tips in the comments. Sharing is caring. Let's talk about the ways your values show up in your leadership. https://lnkd.in/eRqWMGPK #meuniversity #emotionalintelligence #schoolleadership #principals #personaldevelopment #professionaldevelopment #selfawareness #culture #culturebuilding #teambuilding #valuesmatter #valuesbasedleadership Pamela J. Superintendents: “Educators at special program schools are under a lot of stress, self awareness is a priority” I recently delivered a Strengths Workshop and the School improvement specialist recognized that many teachers in the building were often: - 1st - 2nd-year Teacher’s - Switching industries without a traditional teaching background - Temporary team members until we can hire more certified staff When everything is new, it's hard to pick up anything. Her request: I want us to focus on working with the people who work with students. Within 30 days 98.4% of the team agreed that the Strengths and skills learned would have a positive impact on stress and well-being. Send me a message here on LinkedIn for more details.

Elementary School Principal @ St. Vincent De Paul Dual Language Immersion School | Teaching, Leadership
Part 1: Have you ever had a not so proud moment as a leader? As a person? I had one of those this past week when I went “First Sergeant” and admonished my staff for not living and breathing our schools mission among other things. Don’t get me wrong, I would not trade them for anything. It has not been my proudest moment. I shared this story with them: Once upon a time, in a small town, two young teachers started working at St. Ignatius Catholic School right after college. Both had big dreams for a satisfying career. Twenty-five years later, their paths had taken different turns. Samantha, one of the teachers, embraced every chance for growth. She got involved in the school community, took on leadership roles, attended training, and shared new ideas. Over the years, Samantha moved up and eventually became the school principal. Her love for teaching and dedication to the school's mission stood out. On the other hand, Michael, the other teacher, took a different route. He just did the basics of teaching without much excitement and rarely joined school events or training. He was content with the routine and didn't push himself beyond the basics. After many years, someone asked Michael why he hadn't moved up like Samantha. They pointed out that Samantha wasn't smarter; they both started with similar capabilities. With a bit of regret, Michael said, "It's simple. Twenty-five years ago, Samantha worked for the school. I worked for a paycheck." In the end, Samantha's love for her job and students boosted her career and left a lasting impact on many lives. Meanwhile, Michael missed chances and lacked passion for the noble teaching profession. One found fulfillment and climbed higher in their career stories, while the other missed the opportunity. PART 2 coming soon.

This memory popped up of my daughter joining me as I opened up the floor and brought the Color Guard forward for swearing in our states representatives. Involving kids in your professional life is imperative. Regardless if they follow your steps or not- include them. It’s important that they know why you are gone so much, how the bills are paid and what it takes to travel/vacation/buy presents. Showing them what it takes instead of just telling them you work hard. Showing them what you do to make spreadsheets, budget time to get places, public speaking or presenting to leadership, and many other learning opportunities exist through you explaining your work and including them. Inspire your youth #youth #development #professionaldevelopment
