Meet Indian Knoll Elementary! This school in Georgia is recognized for its first Promising Practice, “Caring Collaboration.” Partnering with a local senior living facility, all students at this school participate in grade-level acts of service as an intentional effort to build caring relationships with this elderly population. Recently the City of Mission Viejo, California celebrated its 20th year of being a “Community of Character.” Monthly character traits are at the heart of this unique Promising Practice and are visible in various areas of the city and in its schools giving this entire community a set of shared values and a common language. A plaque can be seen in the city’s “character garden” that reads, “Character is the backbone of greatness. Nance Elementary Missouri prioritizes student voice and leadership with this Promising Practice, “Student Advisory.” Student leaders in this group work to promote school-wide character efforts using their newly updated HEART core values of Honesty, Empathy, Accountability, Respect, and Tenacity.
