𝗘𝗺𝗯𝗼𝗱𝗶𝗲𝗱 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗯𝗼𝗻. 𝗦𝗰𝗼𝗽𝗲 3 𝗠𝗲𝗮𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗥𝗲𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 The guidance discusses the overlap between Scope 3 reporting and embodied carbon assessments. It suggests that using embodied carbon assessments within Scope 3 reporting could be more effective than traditional methods due to the accuracy of LCAs and EPDs. The concept of ‘yearly embodied carbon’ is introduced, which quantifies embodied carbon annually during a project’s construction phase. This could reconcile time-based disparities between Scope 3 reporting and embodied carbon assessments. The guidance also discusses the role of architects and engineers, suggesting they report the embodied carbon of their designs separately from the GHG Protocol. The guidance emphasizes the need for embodied carbon assessments in all projects to improve understanding of Scope 3 emissions. It supports the call for mandating whole life carbon assessments through regulation.
