Terri Griffith, professor of innovation and entrepreneurship, discusses the early adoption phase of AI in business as part of the 'Five things to watch for in Canadian business in 2024' by CityNews. This phase is characterized by companies and individuals learning to navigate AI, which is integrating into business at a pace faster than personal computers did. “This is a much faster rollout of a huge shift and it’s incumbent on all of us to help pull everybody along,” says Griffith. Today, we welcomed to our Bachelor in Transformational Leadership class someone who thinks, lives, works, and invests on the cutting edge. Luis Pareras MD, PhD, Managing Partner of Invivo Partners, neurosurgeon, and expert in artificial intelligence (AI) gave us a spectacular lecture on disruptive technologies (mainly, AI and Synthetic Biology) and their ethical dilemmas. For Dr. Pareras, in the future, there will be three types of living beings: those that have emerged from biological evolution, those that have come from synthetic biology (designed on a computer), and digital AIs. If the average intelligence quotient of a human (IQ) is 100, what will it be like to talk to an AI with an IQ of 1,000,000? Disturbing questions arise. But, perhaps for the first time, we humans have within our reach technologies capable of meeting almost any material need of mankind. A survey by London Business School on impact of AI on business showed: > Health, Finance and Education sectors will be most significantly tranformed in the next two decades. > ~50% of respondents expect AI to transform the entire business model of their companies. > ~67% of them do not feel confident enough about their organisation's ability to integrate AI into its operations The human angle is most crucial here. Everyone will get impacted but in my view it is imperative that we equip young people with skills in AI but also in becoming resilient and entrepreneurial since they form the future workforce at the forefront of this disruption for the longest period. Also, the fact that education is being mentioned in the same breadth as the latter two sectors now is a good sign for Edtech entrepreneurs. Timing is everything.
