Fubon Art Museum in Taipei is for rich folks Someone commented on the cable report aired the morning of June 4, 2024 regarding the newly-opened Fubon Art Museum in Taipei that the Monet exhibit being pathetic in scope. The report exposes the admission of NT$1,200 charged by said art gallery, as does the attached report of June 3, 2024, that is far more expensive than that at the most famous art galleries globally. The gallery in Taipei even sells cookies for NT$3,500. Another Taiwanese said in a FB post that the Fubon gallery is for rich folks. The spokeswoman for the gallery says the building is designed by famous architects for a princely sum and the admission price is based on the user-pays principle. The simple fact is that the greatest artist ever--Mother Nature--exhibits her masterpieces across the world for free, including the 4 shown in southern Thailand and on the west coast of Canada. 8 April, 2023 to 14 July, 2024 |The Met — “Anxiety and Hope in Japanese Art” The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Galleries 223-232, New York, USA This exhibition explores the themes of anxiety and hope, with a focus on the human stories in and around art and art making. It begins with sacred images from early Japan about death, dying, and the afterlife or that were created in response to other uncertainties, such as war and natural disaster. It then proceeds chronologically, highlighting medieval Buddhist images of paradises and hells, Zen responses to life and death, depictions of war and pilgrimage, and the role of protective and hopeful images in everyday life. The range and development of artists work is fascinating

Venus of Milo Exhibition Started (1964) On 8 April 1820, on the Aegean island of Milos, the Greek farmer Yorgos Kentrotas dug out pieces of stone on the island. When put together, they formed a standing statue of a beautiful woman. Venus of Milo Discovered. Yorgos hid it from detection but the statue was discovered and confiscated by the Ottoman officials who ruled the island. The French ambassador to Turkey, the Marquis de Rivière, bought from the Ottoman and next, a French naval admiral asked for it. After being presented to Louis XVIII, it was donated to the Louvre in 1821, where it found a permanent home. On 8 April 1964, a special exhibition opened at the National Museum of Western Art in Tokyo. The Asahi Shimbun newspaper obtained permission from the French Government to exhibit the work in Japan, taking advantage of the fact that the Tokyo Olympics, an event of Greek origin, were to be held in the autumn of that year. The exhibition attracted 831,198 visitors in Tokyo until 15 May, and was on display at the Kyoto Municipal Museum of Art from 21 May to 25 June, attracting a total of 1.72 million visitors to the two museums. https://lnkd.in/gKBsACqm This was the sole opportunity that the exhibition was shown outside France. Japanese newspaper companies have correspondents abroad and build up a strong network of contacts with embassy staff and others. It is therefore not unusual for newspapers to organise touring exhibitions. Exhibitions in Japan are of limited duration and are heavily promoted by the organising newspapers and affiliated TV stations, which is why visitors are often swamped, making it difficult to appreciate the artworks at a leisurely pace. Unlikely Monuments exhibition curated by Giovanna Calvenzi From 31st January to 7th February 2024 Istituto Storico Parri, Bologna Promoted by Istituto Storico Parri and Lavì City on the occasion of Art City Bologna 2024 On show part of an ongoing series of monuments dedicated to women who have had a public role or a relevant role in the public sphere, known, unknown, or forgotten. These monuments are undoubtedly unlikely, like many of the places in which they are placed in this series, which is nothing but imaginary cataloguing as much as the monuments themselves. What is also proposed is a reflection on the meaning of "monument", on how we are remembered and how we would like to be represented, perhaps through other forms than the patriarchal ones that monuments have assumed. The series is presented as an excerpt from a catalogue.

I have selected this work for the offer "Behind the Masks of Utopian Joy", which will be held at Chili Art Gallery (13-15 Dimofontos Street, Thissio) from Thursday, 22 February to Saturday, 2 March 2024 and online via ARTgrid, for a month. I have four works to choose from. Two of them will be selected to be put on display during the exhibition. The works are available in 5 hand-signed prints on museum-quality materials. JOSHUA SEARLE MUSEO DEL ORO ROBADO MUSEUM OF STOLEN GOLD THU 13 JUN - SAT 10 AUG DAWN TO MIDNIGHT EXHIBITION (VIEW FROM 37 DAVEY STREET FRONT) CUBE 37, GLASS CUBE GALLERY Image: Joshua Searle, (installation detail) Joshua Searle (Australian/Colombian) examines and unpacks Pre- Columbian artefacts held in museum collections encountered through texts, as a means to further understand his own diasporic history and identity as an Australian-Colombian. From an initial examination of collective cultural identity and societal impact to a more individual personal exploration, this exhibition includes paintings exploring practices of institutional collecting and impact of colonisation. Searle undertakes a process of reclamation of his own identity as part of the colonial diaspora, and of the works themselves. Museo del Oro Robado (Museum of Stolen Gold) is a critique of institutionalised practices of theft. For the artist ‘stolen gold’ refers to both the literal and metaphoric gold taken by colonisation.
