For reference, the last time it was open cumulatively—not piecemeal—they still called all Fire Departments “Fire Brigades.” For those unfamiliar, notice-and-comment is the standard way Administrative Agencies informally enact rules and regulations. It offers a unique opportunity to effectuate change by allowing members of the public to submit input to a proposal.  Because it is open to the public for suggestions, Firefighters can voice their experience to help promulgate the changes they feel are most essential or absent from the rule or regulation. I worked in the Fire Service for a long time, I know you've all got opinions. You should thoughtfully submit them. 

To avoid needless risk and tragic consequences, according to #NFPA 600 facilities fire brigades for response to fires in industrial, commercial, institutional, and similar property organizations Facility fire brigades, shall be classified into one or more of the following types: (1) Incipient stage firefighting (2) Advanced exterior firefighting only (3) Interior structural firefighting only (4) Both advanced exterior and interior structural firefighting and The training and education program shall include, but not be limited to, all of the following: (1) A review of the applicable provisions of this standard (2) Basic fire chemistry (3) The principles and practices of firefighting and emergency response to the extent required for the type of facility fire brigade and member’s assignment within the brigade. It’s important to quickly assemble enough firefighters to do every job that needs to be done to put the fire out and rescue anyone trapped inside. And there’s a lot to do: hooking to the hydrant, stretching hose, searching for victims, venting hot gases and much more. A minimum of 22 firefighters and 10 response units are immediately dispatched to a house fire. If warranted, more firefighters and trucks may be added to the response. For a fire in a commercial building or a building with four or more stories, we will send even more crews and trucks. The numbers are based on a national standard supported by scientific evidence and research. The goal is to always have enough resources to handle the situation safely and effectively. This is a huge change which I hope all #mariners pay attention to. For far too long the Coast Guard has put up red tape and dumb restrictions that prevent Americans from accessing good-paying jobs #offshore. But last week the Coast Guard agreed with an Offshore Marine Service Association recommendation and removed a huge barrier that had prevented safe and experienced members from coming back to the industry. In the past, if a mariner allowed his or her license or credential to expire, he or she would be required to completely restart the process. For those seeking to reactivate an expired Captain’s license, that would mean between $12,100 and $43,710 in class fees and between 39 and 124 days of classroom instruction. But after hearing from OMSA, the Coast Guard is now extending the grace period for expired licenses from 1 year to 6 years. Thus, anyone who has seen their MMC expire within the last 6 years can now apply for renewal, without having to retake all courses. This is a huge change and we are thankful the Coast Guard has agreed with OMSA and is removing barriers that prevented skilled and experienced mariners from returning to work.
