⚡️CEO of CS Recruiting⚡️| TEDx Speaker 🎤 | 🔎Passionate about helping teams FIND, HIRE & RETAIN Logistics, Transportation & Supply Chain talent|🚶🏻♂️Boy Mom + Yogi🧘🏻♀️|🤝Recruiter by Trade🤝| ❤️Connecter by Heart❤️

My first job was as a waitress. I was also a neighborhood babysitter. I even spent one summer as a camp counselor. And most college summers in retail sales at Nordstrom. After college, I spent over six years in the Advertising industry. Then, I somehow landed in a role as a Recruiter in the Logistics industry. In 2010, I became an Entrepreneur. And for a long time, I carried the title "Recruiter." A few years in, I eventually took an "Account Manager" role. And ten years after starting the firm, I embraced the title of President. Today, I proudly hold the Chief Executive Officer / CEO title at my company. And, maybe one day I'll be a waitress again. (I'm not kidding...) There is no "right" or "wrong" when it comes to your career path. Titles don't always perfectly align with experience...or potential. Every move that we make is the reason we are who we are. It's our competitive advantage. It's the reason we are unique. It shapes our points of view. What has your career path looked like, and what unexpected turns have you embraced along the way? Share your journey below and let's make the bottom image the NORM. Thanks Ryan Roslansky for the visual and reminder that your path is YOUR PATH. #careerpath #hiring #recruiting

Aged 8 I was pirating video games in 1984. By the time I was 14 I was smuggling contraband into my school. Oh and I washed neighbours cars, I did a terrible job because I couldn’t reach the roof. After a million bar jobs. Sales jobs. And other things I can’t remember I fell I to consultancy in 2007 Today, I’ll be your co-pilot. Some call me a coach, but it’s not accurate enough :)

Love this! So fun to reflect on all the jobs I had growing up that eventually led me to start Gem. 1) selling homebaked cookies at the Boston marathon 😋 🍪 2) neighborhood snow shoveler ❄ 3) neighborhood babysitter 👶 4) lifeguard at our local pool 🏊♂️ 5) waiter for 2 years nights, weekends, summers in highschool 🍽 6) front desk worker for MIT dorm freshman year 🏛 7) coding jobs for research labs every semester in college 👨💻 8) TA for my favorite programming classes Junior & Senior year 👨🏫 8) eng internships at Blizzard Entertainment & Facebook 🎮 9) eng -> eng manager @ Dropbox out of school 🚀 10) pretty unconventional 2 year gap to travel and do some soul-searching 🤔 11) Gem for past 7+ years 💎 Reflections: - Ever since I was ~10, I always had a job. - My early jobs were some of the most informative, esp working in a restaurant through high school. - Even though the pay wasn't great, working as a programmer every semester in college was a trial by fire education in coding that I never would have learned in class. - I got into coding to make video games. Facebook internship is what got me excited about tech. - Dropbox is where I learned about recruiting, which led me to start Gem

We have pretty similar career archs before our current roles. I used to be a server and actually say the same thing, maybe again someday? I tell my family it was actually my most rewarding job I’ve had. If someone came and sat in my section and I could tell they were having a bad day I’d make it my mission to makes sure they were smiling before they left. Everyone is going through something so I made sure that when I served them they could put whatever it was aside for an hour. So there may come a point where I’m pushing breadsticks at Olive Garden again someday?

so much about this resonates with me. i went from clinical social worker to running an overnight summer camp for over a decade to leading organizational culture, community and DEI at a publicly traded tech company. now I provide 1:1 coaching, advising and leadership development training. Every single experience I had has shaped my perspective, taught me valuable lessons and provided me with opportunities to learn, grow, fail and work with incredible people from all over the world. Success has always been about the journey, not the destination. Our identity is more than a job or a title. It is about finding opportunities that capitalize on our strengths, gives us space to learn and grow and allows us to contribute to a greater purpose. That path is not always a straight line and we need to get comfortable with the idea that there are many roads that can lead to success - however we define success.

The bottom is actually very similar to my current path. Worked retail throughout undergrad, graduated, offered a role that was rescinded in May 2020, continued in retail during reopening (relocated to Chicago), landed a role at a marketing agency, was laid off while completing my graduate degree in 2023. A year later and I’m still unemployed a year later but trying to stay persistent.

Read and see many stories that zigzag all over but still lead to success. There's no one-size-fits-all path to success but every experience shapes who we are and what we bring to the table.
