Saying "yes" to opportunities that stretch you out of your comfort zone is when growth happens and new doors open. If you ever get tapped on the shoulder - say "yes" to it first, then process your initial reaction if you're 'good enough' after. If you've been asked - someone thinks you are. Two quick career tips I hear over and over and put into practice this time: 🔮 Keep putting yourself outside of your comfort zone - whether it's a speaking engagement, leading a project, doing a presentation at All Hands, all the above and more. These moments of "yes's" are the moments of growth. 🔮 It's important to start establishing a point-of-view as an expert in your space, and being able to communicate that effectively and in a way that captivates an audience - that becomes your differentiator, your "secret sauce". The best part of joining in industry panel discussions is meeting other leading industry practitioners and getting to hear about what worked and didn't in their organizations. It's really easy to get stuck in the "Google bubble", not everything we do here is the most innovative or most efficient - there's a lottttt we could be improving operationally. Grateful to have said "yes", because I was surrounded by some world-class humans at Day One like Antoinette Hamilton, Jake Canull, LeeAnn Mallorie, MAPP, MSC, John P. Bailey, SPHR, SWP, and our moderator David E. Thigpen (David, we still need to have that coffee chat about hip-hop in the 90's that you covered for TIME). If you're in HR or the People Operations spaces, definitely check From Day One's various events across different cities, coast to coast 🌊 . Thank you Kaylan Clemons, M.A. for your behind the scenes magic and Stephen Koepp for bringing this to SF!
