Today is World Gratitude Day 😊 It was started back in 1965 and is celebrated every year on 21st September. 👍The purpose of this day is to “foster feelings of appreciation, positivity, worthiness, and connection, which can create a ripple effect of benefits for everyone involved”. This is an ideal we can all relate to, including in the context of the workplace. In the Belbin office we are always conscious of the positive impact of saying 'thank you' and giving credit where it is due. We highlight and acknowledge both individual and team efforts and achievements. 🎂We also like to make a bit of a fuss of team members for their birthday, such as today. Happy birthday Lisa Ward!🎉 Saying 'thank you' can make a real difference. Did you know that more than a quarter of us (29%) feel undervalued in our current role (according to research by the Institute of Leadership)? With a significant proportion of our time being spent at work, either in the office or working remotely, both expressing and receiving gratitude can have a real impact on company culture, working environment, engagement and retention. 🤔This got us thinking about how different Team Roles might say ‘thank you’… 👉 Why not take a look at our blog - do you recognise yourself? https://lnkd.in/e9nMmeDX So go on, give us that warm and fuzzy feeling. What’s the best ‘thank you’ you’ve received, and why was it special to you? #worldgratitudeday #happinessatwork #teamappreciation (P.S. It was homemade ginger cake & it was delicious!)

Today, as we celebrate Thanksgiving with you, we reflect on how we practice gratitude at Cognician. At Cognician, we weave thanks into pretty much everything we do. There’s even an onboarding task that encourages giving thanks! In fact, we take gratitude so seriously that it’s literally on the agenda. We wrap up our weekly company-wide team meetings with appreciation sessions in which we acknowledge team members for their hard work, contributions and support. Anyone can share kudos or kind words for a team member – and do they! We regularly run over time because we have so much thanks to give. Then, once a quarter, we hold our Mind, Heart and Hands Awards. These allow team members to recognise each other for great thinking, putting their hearts into their work, and getting stuff done. We can nominate as many individuals or teams as we like in these three categories. All nominees receive their citations, making it a deeply meaningful event and a cornerstone of Cognician culture. These weekly and quarterly gratitude rituals aren’t just for show. They lift everyone up. They make people feel valued and appreciated for their contributions, which keeps our motivation engines running at full throttle, always. What do you do in your organisation to give thanks? Happy Thanksgiving! 🦃🍁 #Thanksgiving #HappyThanksgiving #GivingThanks #PracticeGratitude

Five ways to show gratitude to your team because the relationships we invest in, are the ones that grow: 1. Personal thank you notes or emails to express appreciation for their hard work and dedication. Mention specific instances where their efforts were particularly impactful. 2. Small gifts like gift cards, books, or even leave them a cup of their favourite hot beverage from the local cafe. 3. If you're in the position to do so - extra time off or give them an unexpected day off, a longer lunch break, or flexible working hours as a token of appreciation for their hard work. 4. Celebrating milestones to acknowledge personal and professional moments like work anniversaries, promotions, or wins you've achieved together. 5. Always take a moment to ask them how their personal lives are because everything is deeply interconnected. This brings humanity back into the workplace because we always do more for people we like.

Are you celebrating this Friday? March 1st is Employee Appreciation Day, a time to celebrate and honor the contributions and achievements of your staff. While you know how much they contribute to the success of your business, it doesn’t count unless you show and tell them. There are numerous benefits to expressing your gratitude: 1️⃣ Reduces Turnover: Grateful employees are more likely to stay with the company. 2️⃣ Fosters a positive work environment for co-workers, which clients notice! 3️⃣ Promotes employee well-being, reducing accidents & errors. 4️⃣ Increases engagement leads to improved systems/processes which is reflected in the bottom line. And there are so many ways to show appreciation on March 1st along with every other day of the year. Don’t let price stop you, here are ideas that cost next to nothing: 🟠 Appreciation notes: Handwritten thanks of a specific accomplishment or quality you appreciate. 🟠 Social media: Post a “Shout out” for each employee about their contributions to your company. 🟠 Suggestion box: If you value your employees’ opinions (and you should), set up a system to gather ideas and give feedback. Implement the suggestions when possible. 🟠 Puppy time: Have a local animal shelter/pet store to bring some puppies or kittens to the office – holding/petting animals releases stress and makes for a fun break from work. And if you want to spend a little to gain that good will, here are some low-cost ideas: ✅ Branded gear ✅ Breakroom treats ✅ Employee massages The most important part of showing appreciation is sincerity. Take the time and effort to acknowledge each employee’s specific contribution. You’ll like the positive workplace that you, your employees, and customers want to be a part of. Leave a comment on how you're showing thanks to your team.

Tie-dye tshirts! It seems like a silly little staff appreciation event and, on the surface, I suppose it is. That’s what I was expecting today to be. However, as I observed our team today, I realized we are setting the standard for the culture of our organization. The standard that appreciation doesn’t need to wait for a holiday - it can be celebrated on a random Thursday in August. The standard that laughter - at ourselves and with each other - is critical to our success. The standard that teamwork is the rule - not the exception. Whether you’re planning the event, setting it up, or helping your coworker (me) who doesn’t know how to tie-dye. The standard that mistakes happen and that sometimes they turn into something awesome. The standard that you should be proud of the work you do and be your teammates’ biggest cheerleader. The standard that connection is the most important part of our day. There were emails to send and reports to write, but I learned far more about moving our facility in the right direction today by spending it in the sunshine with our residents and our team…setting the standard.

In honor of the Thanksgiving holiday, we’re sharing one of our favorite tips on gratitude, from 2020. You don’t need grand gestures to show your employees you appreciate them. Sometimes, it’s the little, everyday things that matter most. Start by checking in with each of your employees regularly. Give them the space to share what they’re doing or working on. You should also give balanced feedback. Praise is meaningful, but employees also want to know where they can improve. Just don’t give both types of feedback at once — clearly separate out the positive from the developmental. Offering growth opportunities or stretch assignments is another way to show employees they’re respected and valued. So take the time to explicitly discuss their potential. Lastly, make appreciation a habit. Try to build it into your regular routines, perhaps by spending the first 15 minutes of your week writing a personal thank-you note or starting your team meetings with shout-outs for the accomplishments of specific team members. You might be surprised at what a big difference the little things can make.
