What is the point of having summer days at the company? I just participated in another unforgettable event organized by Bigbank, and I feel genuinely happy and grateful for having such a great employer and awesome colleagues. Creating such a positive feeling is obviously a good reason to have summer days. But there can be more! Things to consider when organizing the event: ↪ Team building and cooperation If your main goal is to improve cooperation between employees and focus on team building, it’s best to have the summer days without families. Activities should be team-focused, and it might be beneficial to rearrange teams between activities to encourage collaboration among different groups. ↪ Socializing and fun If your goal is to enable employees to get to know each other better and just have fun, you should consider a variety of activities and allow families to participate. ↪ Maximizing attendance To maximize attendance, schedule the summer days during the workweek. If this is not possible, consider allowing families to attend and providing attractive activities for everyone. Would you add anything else?

Remember that freedom of being on summer break?! Isn't it ironic that now that we are grown-ups we theoretically are more “in charge” and yet have less freedom. Our days are full of lists, obligations. Work. Summer is the perfect time to remember that life is more than work! The longer days give us more opportunities for those things that bring joy and rest – and fun! Sure, you can do things before or after work (take an early morning run, hit a hiking trail after work, read outside, linger over the sunset). But you can give yourself some summer breaks at work too! You could... 🍧 bring a frozen treat to your morning stand-up 🚶♀️ have a walking meeting 🎡 take a field trip with your work team 🏓 play a game with your co-workers What will you do in your personal or work life to make the most of these summer days? Work for a company that allows time away because they know you’ll be better for them in the long run. Innovation and longevity is not a grind. Work for a company who sees you, not only as an employee, an asset, or a resource. A company that understands that life goes on outside of the 4 walls. Work for a company who values family. Who knows you are irreplaceable at home in times of need. Work for a company who trusts you and provides flexibility. Trusts that you are going to give your all most days, and make up for the times when you can’t. On days where I have no child care, I’m thankful I can keep an eye on my kids from the comfort of my dining room table. Even if this means putting in the late hours to ensure I’m showing up for my family, my team, and my employer. I’m a better employee when I can care for my family during these irregular times. Summer camp will begin and my schedule will go back to normal. But for now, I’ll simply relish in gratitude.

Imagine a summer where you get to travel to beautiful places spend quality time with friends and family bask in the sun like a lazy lizard go on beautiful road trips cook and eat delicious meals, every meal AND also keep your business flowing open your inbox every day to people wanting to work with you have creative ideas constantly drop into your consciousness carve out time each day to write what you love, connect with great people, and discover new opportunities Imagine that. That's the best kind of summer to me: 𝗔 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗯𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗱 𝗯𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝘆 where the work doesn't even feel like work, but is so joyful and relaxed that it also feels like play. But this isn't about cramming in as much as you can. It's actually the opposite. 𝗜𝘁'𝘀 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝘀 𝗺𝘂𝗰𝗵 𝘀𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝗯𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗸 𝗮𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗰𝗮𝗻. That sounds counterintuitive, but what happens is this: When you have intentional blank space for all the restful, fun, relaxing, playful things then when you do sit down to do some work, that time also becomes more intentional and focused. In the end, 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘨𝘦𝘵 𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘥𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘰 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘬 𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘦. You keep your biz and work flowing, with plenty of time to spare for a super summer. Hello Summer! While I'm excited for the summer and all the fun we've already had and will be having, I'm also present to the potential overwhelm that it can cause our family and potentially your's. Summertime brings its own unique challenges which have been coming up over and over again with my clients. Here are a few tips based on some recent client conversations. - Set Work Hours: Clearly define your work times and communicate them to your family. - Create a Schedule: Plan the week with your kids, including camp times and family activities. - Designate Quiet Zones: Have specific areas for work where you won't be disturbed. - Prioritize Self-Care: Take time for yourself, even if it’s just a quick break. - Set Realistic Goals: Focus on what truly matters and accept that not everything will be perfect this summer.
