"What is the difference between the new ITIL 4 one-day and three-day practice certifications? Which one should I take?"
The major differences between the individual (1-day) and bundled practice courses is their primary focus and level of detail. The individual courses cover all aspects of an individual practice guide in detail. The 3-day courses combine 5 practices and still provide a lot of detail, but focus more on the interrelationship between the 5 practices.
Which course you take depends on your goals. Here are some scenarios:
- I currently manage, or aspire to manage, a single practice (e.g. Service Desk or Incident Management). Consider the individual (1-day) practice course for that practice. However, remember that many practices are closely related and you might find that you need to expand your studies to other practices
- I currently manage, or aspire to manage, teams that use more than one practice (e.g. an operations team that manages incidents, problems and events). Consider the combined practice course (5 practices in a single 3-day course).
- I would like to achieve the Practice Manager certification. Depending on what is more convenient for you: Complete 5 individual practices in a single group, or complete a 3-day combined practice course. You will also need to complete the "Create, Deliver, Support" certification.
- I am already certified as a Managing Professional or Strategic Leader, and I want a quick way to keep my certifications current. A 1-day practice course is the quickest way to make sure that all your certifications are renewed.
- I currently have the MP and SL certificates, and I want to achieve the ITIL 4 Master certification. Consider taking 5 individual practice courses in a single group (1 day each) or a 3-day combined practice course.
