PhD French | Indian Classical dancer (Kathak) | Content & Training Associate at Pratham International
Hi, this is a thought-provoking question. I have tried my best to research on the reasons for motivation and demotivation for teachers in the Indian context through my PhD. Interestingly, most teachers were motivated to continue working if there were challenges thrown at them and majorly demotivated by the pay scale, the monotony of the curriculum and the system, the class size, etc. As per my findings and for future research, it will be interesting to find out how teachers would react if these demands were met at a priority basis for them to improve their teaching in schools and prevent them from taking tuitions. This way, neither are the children or the teachers exhausted from continuous work.
You’re working to improve teaching-learning practices in secondary schools. However, you find that many teachers run their own tuition classes after school hours. So, for them it does not make sense to improve their teaching during school hours. What are you going to do?
