The Cherokee County School District congratulates the winners of its third annual Transportation Employee of the Year Awards! The awards recognize an outstanding school bus driver from each Innovation Zone (high school and feeder middle and elementary schools) and one from CCSD’s team of Special Education drivers; from this group, one overall CCSD winner is selected. The winners are selected by their fellow bus drivers and the Transportation department’s administration team. This year’s overall winner is Nick Harper, a seven-year CCSD school bus driver for the Sequoyah Innovation Zone. This year, two Innovation Zone winners were named for the Cherokee Innovation Zone, one North and one South, due to the area’s size. The Innovation Zone winners, in addition to Mr. Harper, are: Cherokee North, Joe Farrell; Cherokee South, Jeanie Sheppard; Creekview, Lynn Hudson; Etowah, Marvin Dorsey; River Ridge, Ben MacCracken; Woodstock, Lulu Busby; and Special Education, Lisa Ragsdale “In addition to being an awesome person, Nick is an awesome bus driver,” said Lisa DuBois, the Sequoyah Zone’s supervisor. “The safety and well-being of the students on his bus is always his first priority.” Mr. Harper’s routes include transporting students from the Sequoyah Zone to ACE Academy, CCSD’s alternative school. “He has become a ‘counselor behind the wheel’” for ACE students, Ms. DuBois said. “He’s friendly, approachable, and always willing to help – he has the best attitude. He always handles any situation with ease and never complains.” The winners were recognized this week before their peers at the Transportation department’s annual back-to-school kick-off meeting and training session at River Ridge High School. Credit Union of Georgia sponsored lunch for all those in attendance. Thanks to the sponsorship of the Cherokee County Educational Foundation and Peach State Thomas Buses, Mr. Harper received a $500 gift card and the Zone and Special Education winners each received a $100 gift card. All the winners additionally received a congratulatory banner and gift bag, which included gifts from Credit Union of Georgia and Cobb EMC, and gift cards from Chick-fil-A, Cherokee County, and Menchie's Frozen Yogurt at Riverstone. The recognition program is in addition to CCSD’s Support Staff Employees of the Year program, which all non-educators, including bus drivers, are eligible to win for their school or central office division. Transportation Executive Director Jim Georges started the Transportation awards program to give additional recognition to this valued group of employees. #CCSDfam

Are you 'that parent' who has forgotten to provide your child(ren) with a gift for their teacher? Here's some last minute ideas that might save you! This week's #blog is all about those little #gifts! Teachers play a pivotal role in shaping our lives and the lives of our children. Their dedication, patience, and passion deserve our deepest gratitude. As the school year winds down or during special appreciation weeks, you might find yourself scrambling for a last-minute gift to express your thanks. Fear not! Here are some thoughtful and easy-to-execute gift ideas that will make any teacher feel appreciated. 1. Handwritten Thank You Note Sometimes, the simplest gestures are the most meaningful. A heartfelt, handwritten note can go a long way in showing your appreciation. Share specific examples of how the teacher has made a difference in your or your child's life. Personal anecdotes and genuine compliments will make your note stand out and be cherished for years to come. 2. Gift Cards When you're pressed for time, gift cards are a lifesaver. They offer flexibility and allow teachers to treat themselves to something they truly want or need. Popular choices include: Coffee shops (Starbucks, Dunkin’) Bookstores (Barnes & Noble, Amazon) Office supply stores (Staples, Office Depot) Restaurants or local eateries Attach a small note expressing your gratitude to add a personal touch. 3. DIY Gift Baskets Put together a small gift basket with items you can easily find at a local store. Tailor the basket to the teacher’s preferences if you know them, or stick to universally appreciated items such as: Snacks (chocolates, granola bars, gourmet popcorn) Relaxation items (candles, bath bombs, herbal teas) Classroom supplies (colorful pens, sticky notes, hand sanitizer) Wrap the basket in clear cellophane and finish it with a ribbon for a polished look. 4. Potted Plants or Flowers A beautiful plant or bouquet of flowers can brighten up any classroom or home. Choose low-maintenance plants like succulents or small indoor plants that are easy to care for. Attach a note that says something like, "Thank you for helping us grow," to tie the gift into the theme of gratitude. 5. Personalized Items If you have a little more time, consider personalized gifts. Customizable items like mugs, tote bags, or notepads with the teacher’s name or a special message can be ordered quickly from many online retailers. While these may take a few days to arrive, they often make a memorable and cherished gift. 6. Classroom Donations Many teachers spend their own money on classroom supplies. A thoughtful gift can be a basket of useful supplies or a donation towards something specific they need. Consider items such as: Dry erase markers Tissues and disinfecting wipes To continue reading, log on and sign up to our Weekly Newsletter: https://lnkd.in/eXGg7YG5 #brightmindinternational #giftsforteachers #internationalteaching #teachtranslatetravel

Teacher Appreciation Week is here! But before you rush out and buy another apple, let’s dig into the history (and the best ways to show your gratitude). Turns out, Teacher Appreciation Week’s roots are a little fuzzy. Maybe it was First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt in the 50s, or maybe passionate teachers from Wisconsin or Arkansas. Either way, we’re celebrating those who shape young minds! Fast Forward to 1980: #NationalTeacherDay bursts onto the scene in March. Four years later, the awesome National PTA declares the first full week of May as Teacher Appreciation Week. So, How Do We Celebrate? GTeachers spend a ton of their own money on supplies. A gift card to Walmart, Target, Amazon, or even a local coffee shop can be a lifesaver! The Power of “Thank You”: A heartfelt card or note from a student or parent can be more meaningful than any gift. Teachers are BUSY. Offer to volunteer in the classroom, help with events, or even just give them a planning period free from interruptions. Shout out your favorite teacher on social media! The National PTA even has a “Thank a Teacher” toolkit with graphics, activities, and digital thank-you cards. #SocialMediaLove Advocate, Advocate, Advocate! Supporting public schools and fighting for better resources is the ultimate teacher appreciation move. Show your teachers you care, in a way that works for them. And hey, if they do love apples, well, you know what to do! #TeacherAppreciationWeek #ThankYouTeachers #TeacherAppreciationReimagined #SupportTheirClassroom #EveryDayCanbeTeacherAppreciationDay #WordsMatterMost #PublicSchoolsMatter

Performance Coach | Author | Speaker | I help organizations become 21st century juggernauts (check out my website for more info)
More than 70% of my teachers THRIVED in my K12 program, and here's why? I am an "out of the box" thinker. It's not that I think the status quo is a problem, but when the Status Quo isn't doing what it's supposed to do - then yes, I think there's a problem. I don't know if you have a teacher problem or not, but if you do - this is how I evaluated my teachers on a monthly basis. Now you might be saying, "Monthly??" OMG that's so much work. But the truth is - it's less work than you think and it IMPROVES teacher performance and morale at the same time. And here's why? Teachers want to know where they stand. And teachers want to be recognized for their good work. This teacher evaluation method does both of those things. Each month, I would give the teacher a score. Teachers who scored above the threshold, got a certificate of achievement as well as a $5 dunkin donuts gift card from me. In the beginning, I only had about 5% of my teachers exceeding the threshold, but after 6 months, I had over 70% of teachers beating the benchmarks. And at that point, I started to do public recognition at the Faculty Meetings for teachers who were outstanding for that month (which also reinforced how important the monthly evaluation was to me). If you're doing battle with your teachers - that's the wrong approach to school leadership. Your teachers are good people - but the SYSTEM we work inside is majorly screwed up. Don't allow the SYSTEM to cloud your judgment. Follow this 8 step process. If you get stuck or need help contact me ASAP!! https://lnkd.in/grjCFteK

Happy Teacher’s Appreciation Week! To fully appreciate teachers many things are true. ⭐️ It is true that teachers should be paid significantly more. ⭐️ It is true that teacher voice is extremely essential in education and should be valued and heard. ⭐️It is true that teachers need all of our support. ⭐️ It is true that teachers shouldn’t have to pay for their classroom supplies—it should be provided. AND ⭐️ It is also true that teachers love a good gift card. ⭐️ It is true that they love appreciation notes from their students and leaders. ⭐️ It is true that breakfasts, lunches or treats for teachers each day is a win ⭐️ It is also true that they would love an extra 30 min break to take a breath, use the restroom or walk outside. In all these truths it isn’t an either/or —it’s a both/and. #happyteachersday #appreciation #teacher #teach #appreciate #appreciateteachers #happyteachersappreciationweek

First off, I want to wish everyone a fantastic Fourth of July. I know this week is a busy time with potato salad to be made and sparklers to be sparkled. But here's the thing: right after July comes August, which is Back-to-School season. So I have a sparkling offer of my own to make for the educators in the crowd (and the people who love them). As I mentioned earlier this year, I'm looking for the chance to thank a few deserving teachers with gift cards of up to $1,000 to restock their classrooms with supplies and equipment. August is usually my best and busiest time of year, as my calendar fills up with back-to-school kickoffs, and of course the in-service and professional development days I do all year round. I know I owe a *lot* of those gigs to those of you who've already seen my presentations, or maybe learned about them here on social media, and tell your fellow educators about my work. Your word of mouth is worth more than its weight in lovingly home-baked cherry pies and the most artisanal of potato salads. I would like to pay that debt forward, and maybe help fill up my calendar a little faster in the process this year. So I'm bringing back my "Everybody Wins" referral bonus from a few years ago. Here's how it works in 5 easy steps: 1) Please keep spreading the word about the benefits of engagement mindset classrooms that are more collaborative and less competitive. 2) If I get hired based on your referral, and the hirer confirms that you sent them my way, I'll send you a gift card for classroom supplies and equipment — $1,000 if the event is scheduled to happen *before* August 1 of this year, and $500 if it's after August 1. 3) Here's the link with all my best videos: https://lnkd.in/gpcAwKy8 You can reshare this posting, or use email or text messages, or maybe even hijack the conversation in the teacher's lounge. Ask your colleagues to check out FunnyEducator.com to see samples of my work and get in touch. 4) And of course, ask your referrals to tell me that it was you who sent them! You can use the same contact form on my site to let me know if you've made a successful referral. 5) You can also tell them they'll get an automatic 10% discount on the booking if they mention this "Everybody Wins" promo. That's it! I'm heading out shopping for corn on the cob. Thanks for lending me your own ears (ha ha), and I hope you all have a safe, happy, and spectacular Fourth. I'm including a couple of flashback photos of my daughter and her Aunt Leah from 2015. #education #professionaldevelopment #funnyeducator #motivationalspeaker #teacherlife #teachertribe

As summer comes to an end and the excitement of a new school year begins, most parents dread the price tag associated with back-to-school shopping. And we don’t blame them! The amount of necessary supplies has climbed to new heights, right along with the cost. Here are a few ways to help lessen the financial burden: 👇 📚Buy Discount Gift Cards. These can provide savings of 1% to upwards of 20% at a wide variety of stores, meaning you’ll never pay full price for supplies again. Add this discount on top of any sales you find and you’re ahead of the game. Just be sure to purchase gift cards from a reliable site, read the fine print for whether they can be used online, in-store or both, and pay attention to any expiration dates. 🛍️Shop Dollar Stores. When it comes to things like scissors, calculators, lunch containers, construction paper, poster board and notebooks their $1 price tag provides a hefty savings. Some dollar stores even have online shopping to help expedite the process. ⏰Wait to Buy. For supplies not needed on day one, wait a week or two after school starts to buy them. It can save you 50-70% since retailers need to move those items off the shelf quickly. Even better? Get the supply list for next year and purchase it all on sale so you’re ahead of the game. ⚽️Buy Used for Sports. Along with the cost of school supplies comes fall sports gear as a double whammy to your wallet. While there are used school items like backpacks and clothes that can be good money-savers, buying used sporting equipment at stores like Play It Again Sports and through websites like Craigslist or Facebook Marketplace is where the savings really add up. Especially over a few years with multiple kids. If you have any back-to-school savings tips, we’d love to hear them! We hope the start of the school year gets off to an amazing start for you and the kiddos! 📚😀 #backtoschool #schoolsstarting #backtoschool2023 #educationfirst
