Microsoft is the first company I worked at. I learned a lot of personal and professional skills at Microsoft. Here are a few of them that stayed with me: 🔹The breadth of technology is huge. When I was at Microsoft Hyderabad, people were working on frontend, backend, machine learning, blockchain, Hololens (Augmented Reality), Games (Xbox), and much more. I realized the scope within IT industry is huge. 🔹Diversity is important to build products at scale for a diverse audience An engineering & product team full of men cannot design and create a game for female. A team of healthy individuals cannot design products for specially-abled individuals. When you work at scale like Microsoft (Billions of users using your products), you have to build products for everyone. This requires you to have diversity in team & hiring. 🔹Culture is important What is the point of building a company if people don’t feel happy coming to the office? I felt happy every day going to the office – working on scalable projects, learning something new every day, interacting with friends, cafeteria meetups, and everything. I use all of these learnings everyday in my professional life. What are the major learning you had from your first job? #microsoft #learning

SDE job openings are increasing significantly vs the previous quarter. 📈 Looks like the tech hiring market is continuing its steady incline back to full strength. Sharing some great insights curated by Dave Hardwick. • As of the 27th, there have been 45,241 SDE openings on LinkedIn in the U.S. for the last 7 days. • This is +37.2% v. the 13-week rolling average, +95.43% above last week’s count of 23,149, and the highest weekly count for this category of ads this year. ⬆ • Product Manager ads: 5,033 (+79.6% v. the rolling 13-week average of 2,802), and the highest count for this calendar year. ⬆ • Program Manager ads: 7,758 (+73.6% v. the rolling 13-week avg of 4,470), again, highest for the calendar year. ⬆ MAAMA Co’s (SDE job ad counts for this cohort): • Apple: Apple: 0 (continuing their no-job ad trend on LinkedIn since 10/30/23 ↔ • Google: 312 (+100.9% v. their rolling 13-week avg. of 155) ⬆ • Microsoft: 1,544 (+148.7% v. their rolling 13-week avg. of 621)⬆ • Amazon/AWS: 2,009, (+230.5% vs their rolling 13-week avg. of 608)⬆ • Meta: 413 (+434.2% v. their rolling 13-week avg. of 77)⬆ • Total: 4,278 (+192.7% v. their rolling 13-week avg. of 1,461)⬆ ⬆

After NVIDIA, Meta has been the best performing stock of the so-called 'Magnificent 7' so far in 2024. In fact, it has been on a steady run since its major rounds of layoffs in 22/23. A few things it seems to be getting right: - Investing in AI (like everyone else). It has a full-stack approach. It is one of the biggest buyers of Nvidia chips (alongside the three major hyperscalers) giving it the computing power. It is going (mostly) open-source with its LLM, giving it a reach into the developer/data scientist community. It has a ton of users across its social media platforms. - Getting out of enterprise. Like many consumer-focused companies, it has struggled to find the winning formula in enterprise, both in software and hardware. - A winning form-factor in wearables (IMO). I've always believed that 'normal' glasses will win over spaceship-style headwear. Ray-Ban Meta is a volume game (which will help drive use cases/innovation). It is reported to be looking at buying a small stake in EssilorLuxottica (which is the outright market leader in eyewear). Even if it doesn't happen, Meta is looking to bring AR to the masses.

The top ten of the largest companies in the world, January 2024 Recently, there have been some changes at the top of the largest companies (by market capitalization). Microsoft has overtaken Apple and, after many years, has returned to the top and became the first company to surpass the 3 trillion mark. Nvidia continues its meteoric rise and is now in 6th place with a market cap of 1.51 trillion. For the first time, Meta has joined the trillion-dollar company club. However, Tesla seems to be on the verge of falling out of the club, currently sitting just at the edge with a market cap of 582 billion at 10th place.
