As I was scrolling down my feed I stumbled upon two posts on the #greeneconomy and #renewableenergy from Matthew Cullinan and Joe de Beer, two #thoughtleaders I have so much respect for. What is clear is that as #localgovernment institutions we will have to strengthen #statecapability on how we facilitate an enabling environment to respond positively to the #greeneconomy ecosystem. Of course there is lots to learn but we are fortunate to have access to a wealth of knowledge resources around us. #neweconomythinking #buildingstatecapability

Working for just transitions in the Global South

R135-billion. This is the amount of solar panels, lithium-ion #batteries, wind turbines and inverters imported by SA over the 2010 to 2022 period. Yet, SA has noteworthy manufacturing capabilities in the renewable energy and battery storage value chains. And market demand is booming. This points to a key industrial development opportunity for the country – the kind that only presents itself once in a century or so. The South African #renewableenergy Masterplan (SAREM) aims to seize the moment and put in place the necessary frameworks to drive the industrial and inclusive development of renewable energy and battery storage value chains in the country. Thanks Cheryl - there are such huge opportunities in this space and - as you rightly point out - having capable and capacitated institutions is a necessary enabler in helping investors navigate the legislative and regulatory space.
