As the year comes to a close, I find myself reflecting on the incredible journey ElderPRIME has embarked upon. This year has been a testament to the hard work, innovation, and dedication of our entire team, and it's with immense pride that I share some of our standout achievements. We kicked off the year with an ambitious mindset and it quickly paid off when we clinched the Runner-up position at the National Impact Challenge hosted by AGE-WELL NCE Inc. and SE Health. The recognition was a significant milestone, fuelling our commitment to enhancing elder care with cutting-edge solutions. The journey didn't stop there; our innovative approach continued to resonate, earning us the People's Choice award at the same event. This accolade was particularly special as it reflected the community's belief in our mission and the impact of our work. Mid-year, we showcased our innovations at Collision Conf 2023's Startup Showcase. Being part of such a dynamic and influential tech gathering allowed us to network with industry leaders, gain invaluable insights, and spotlight our commitment to transforming elder care. The Fall brought no slowdown, as we attended HLTH in Las Vegas, a gathering of healthcare's most innovative minds. Our efforts were further acknowledged when we reached the Finalist stage of the Nimbus Synergies Health Impact Investor Challenge, produced by Spring. Competing with British Columbia's top health startups, we presented our vision for a sustainable and inclusive future in elder care. This acknowledgment affirmed the potential of our solutions and strengthened our resolve to keep pushing the boundaries. As we look ahead, we're fuelled by the achievements of the past year and excited for the opportunities that lie ahead. Our journey continues, and we are ever grateful for the support, encouragement, and collaboration from our community, partners, and team. March is special! And the 2nd of March is extremely special. My heart fills with Joy today. On this day , exactly twelve years ago , I dared to commence this adventure called Primeah Pharmacy as a side hustle. Backed with Faith in my Father who owns the Universe, experience from my time running our family business, entrepreneurial lessons from other personal business stints here and there , and guidance from mentors, I took the bold step to start. It has been an interesting and rewarding journey. I have cried and I have laughed. There has been highs and lows. There has been failures and there has been successes. The tiny thirty sqm store that started as side hustle now has about thirty humans in the team across branches working in different capacities. It's now twelve years of providing more than medicines: wellness and satisfaction to our communities. Twelve years of making a difference , not just dispensing medications, but cultivating a haven of care and compassion, where each interaction is infused with empathy and expertise. Twelve years of building a dedicated team that works tirelessly to ensure every individual receives personalized attention and the highest quality of service, because we understand that health is deeply personal. Twelve years of guiding patients through their wellness journey, collaborating with healthcare providers, and fostering partnerships that transcend transactions. Twelve awesome years! 💥 Our journey hasn't been without its trials. Easter's spirit of renewal and new beginnings resonates in a different way for me this year. Growing up, Easter was about the thrill of the hunt, vying for the most eggs as many can probably relate to! Yet, the symbolism of Easter – renewal and new beginnings – holds a more profound meaning for me this weekend. 🔍 This year, it symbolizes a new path in my professional journey. After serving for over 30 years as a physician, entrepreneur/founder, C-suite executive, and flight surgeon, my wife, Jennifer, and I have ventured into guiding Medtech and Healthtech leaders here in the U.S. and globally. This partnership marks the first time we've blended our professional paths, bringing unique challenges and, at the same time, joys. 🔥 Determining roles and capitalizing on our strengths has demanded patience and open, sometimes animated, discussions. But it's these challenges that have strengthened our bond and sharpened our focus. I'm an avid fan of ZOE. It revolutionised my eating beyond any other app or PT, so actively encouraged pals to sign up. So I feel sad to read that 20% of their workforce is being made redundant. Over the last year, the startup sector has been hit hard with redundancies. We hear both sides, Founders who are understandably distraught at losing their businesses & distraught candidates often left in desperate financial situations. We hear a lot about BAD Founder behaviour from saying ridiculously insensitive things like 'Well I didn't get paid either this month either', 'it's not my job to help them find other jobs', to illegal behaviour of not paying employee pension contributions already deducted from staff salaries, to refusing to talk to staff after the initial announcement. We also hear the good, the Founders who actively reach out to their network to source new roles, who publically share their redundancy lists on LinkedIn, to being readily available to support emotionally (even when they are struggling themselves), to letting staff keep their laptops. From the below it is good to see that mental health benefits are being extended, laptops can be kept, there is job-hunting support and access to slack channels for a sense of community. We all know that working for a startup is risky, we take that risk because they are exciting places to work, the camaraderie, the sense of being actively engaged at work is so invigorating. BUT when it goes wrong employees go through a brutal grieving process and need to feel heard, understood and supported.

Founder Friday- As a Founder of a Health Tech startup I balance/juggle who I am depending on who we are pitching. Some days I wear the hat of being a Rare Dad who built an app and some days I'm a Tech CEO. A lot of days I wear both. I have been preparing for the CEO role my entire career but it's only been the last 6 years that I've been "in it" as a Dad and Caregiver. Luckily, I have a Co-Founder who's in it with me and together with our vast career experiences combined with our personal experiences we are making a difference. In a follow up message to a potential client this week I received a compliment that made me so proud of the work Bret Koncak and I do every day to help others like us. "Most companies “talk the talk” but rarely understand how to “walk the walk”, I felt the exact opposite talking to you guys today." mejo wasn't created because we saw a gap in the market or we left jobs in this industry to capitalize on a quick pay day . We built mejo because we are living it. We interact with communities who need us. We are fighting to bring solutions to families who are frustrated as well. We are walking beside our partners and clients. I've always lived by this quote: When you walk with purpose, you'll collide with destiny. I was compelled to write a quick blog about a situation that happened a few years ago where I used mejo in the "wild".
