3 friends were laid off this week. 2 are spiraling out of control. 1 is excited AF. (All 45+ with families) What gives? The “spiralers”: 🛑 Were “risk-averse” 💯 Went all-in on corporate (20+ years) 🎁 Parting gift? "Great job" + tiny severance No entrepreneurial experience. 100% W2 dependent. Now, they’re freaking out (so are their spouses). → Expensive salary → In a consolidating industry → Is a dangerous place to be But my energized friend? 🎓 She'd already graduated (mentally) 💸 She’s gone $0 to $1 on her own 📈 She’s got a 7-figure plan Entrepreneurial freedom was in motion; corporate had already become the tool. She quickly framed her layoff as a liberator. A sign that said, “To the Stars” 💫 ----- Corporate made you so 𝘷𝘢𝘭𝘶𝘢𝘣𝘭𝘦...yet so 𝘷𝘶𝘭𝘯𝘦𝘳𝘢𝘣𝘭𝘦. → Leverage your corporate past → Build a business using your genius → Make your future self & family proud Clearly, the time has come. Since I graduated high school I've took a major risk almost every 2 years. Here's the brief rundown: For background, I went to play D1 Football at The Air Force Academy out of high school... a very hard school to get into and what I thought was a life achievement. My parents, Lisa Autry & John Autry, invested SO MUCH of their life for my hopeful success there. Pressure was on to make sure this Air Force Academy thing worked out.. BUT These were the risks I took right after -> - Dropped out of college to run business I started - Business failed after 2 years 🚫 - Started another business and failed immediately 😂 💀 - Mixed concrete and then door-knocked commission only - Joined 2 early-stage tech start-ups as founding AE (Also risky btw) - Quit high-paying SaaS job to Co-Found Shared Sweeps (pre-revenue, VERY risky) Now we have some serious momentum with Shared Sweeps and our event series. Are the risks paying off? The main thing that could have stopped this snowball effect of risks leading to something great, is the fear of what my parents would think. Most young adults do what makes their parents happy, in return they lack the opportunity to find real struggle and personal growth of their own journey. If you're under the age of 30 with no kids, now is the time to take RISKS. Stop doing what people tell you to do.

Humans aren't very good at this, but try to think 5, 10 years down the line rather than just next year or the year after. You'll find that you’ll adjust your steps accordingly. It's like surfing; if you look at the direction you're going, your feet will naturally guide you towards that. So keep your eyes on the horizon. Embarking on a daring career shift entails navigating a path filled with challenges. In this second installment of a 5-part series with Dominic Dunnett, Senior Product Manager at Revolut, he candidly reveals the incremental steps he took before the plunge, and the hurdles he faced during his remarkable transition from law to software engineering. Shifting gears wasn't just a career change for Dominic—it also involved relocating from Scotland to Asia. “I had to accept taking a step backwards to start over. I was three years into law, which is equivalent to an intermediate-level lawyer pushing towards seniority. To get hired as a software engineer, I had to accept that I’d start over from the graduate level. Making a change in career and location at the same time was challenging, but a lot of the motivation came from the self-respect and satisfaction of having made this choice as my own. I remember one of my friends asking me, why are you doing this?
