It's particularly a privilege to co-author with these MBE giants, several of whom taught and mentored me during graduate school. This GivingTuesday, we are aiming to be able to develop internally by raising funds to create more opportunities for GPSA to support graduate students. We currently do not receive enough funds to be able to fully support the requests of student groups coming to us for co-sponsorship. We are working to expand our ability to offer integrated salaried positions to enable our student members to be supported for all of the work that they do. We have started work toward an initiative to train students to work as medical and legal interpreters for our legal, medical, and psychological clinics. Our long-term goal is to start being able to offer a childcare grant for graduate, professional, and medical students who are traveling for their research. We also want to create a Penn State Grad School publication, where we would be able to present the work of our students. GPSA is the longest-running student governing body here at Penn State, established 73 years ago. This year is the 70th anniversary of the landmark Brown v. Board decision (1954) and its fight for desegregation in schools. While progress has been made, significant challenges remain. Desegregation efforts faced roadblocks, leaving the promise of Brown largely unfulfilled. But the fight for educational equity continues.
