Correct tourniquet application with effective haemorrhage control is critical in crisis situations.
Still better suited for handcuffs than hemorrhage control… Since our original STAT “tourniquet” experience showing it was an ineffective device for hemorrhage control, there have been two peer reviewed, published studies finding similar results. Most recently, 84 volunteers with no prior tourniquet training applied either a STAT or 7th-generation CAT tourniquet to the HapMed leg trainer, after viewing a 60-second manufacturer video on device application. None of the STAT devices generated adequate hemorrhage control pressures. The average pressure generated by the volunteers was 409.9 mm Hg (CAT) versus 116.5 (STAT) with 57% of STAT applications less than 100 mm Hg pressure. This post got my mind spinning yesterday. In the article a group of volunteers using the Hapmed Trainer were found to be able to generate over 400 mmHg pressure using the CAT. https://lnkd.in/gE6Ca5wH “Eighty-four total volunteers (42 CAT, 42 STAT) completed testing. Volunteers applied the CAT (50.0%, n = 21) with significantly greater rates of success than the STAT (0%, n = 0, p < 0.001). The CAT demonstrated significantly greater average occlusion pressure compared to the STAT (409.9 mm Hg vs. 116.5 mm Hg, p < 0.001)" That got me looking for more articles using the Hapmed Trainer. In this next one a group of student volunteers used the trainer to assess the SAM-XT, CAT and the SOF-T. https://lnkd.in/gvM2WGMW “Of the 150 students recruited, 55, 46, and 49 were randomized to the SAM XT, CAT, SOFT-T, respectively. Mean overall simulation survival was less than 66% (65%, 72%, 61%; p = 0.55). Of survivors, all three tourniquets performed similarly in median pressure applied (319, 315, and 329 mm Hg; p = 0.54)” For this next article you have to dig into meat of it rather than the abstract. But pressures generated by the CAT this time, again using the Hapmed Trainer, were in the low 200s mmHg. Participants for this one were IDF soldiers, not students. https://lnkd.in/gqXQfW9W So what’s going on? A ~200mmHg spread is hard to attribute to volunteer variability, especially since the group performing worst were actual soldiers. Anyone with any insights here? Anyone else with experience using the Hapmed Trainer? Jørgen Melau

The truly portable Avive Connect AED easily travels inside my hydration pack as I explore the National Forest & the new “Bean Peaks” gravity flow trails.. 🚴👇🏽 Sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) can happen to anyone, anywhere, and at anytime. Without defibrillation, SCA often leads to death within minutes. Reliance on rapid EMS support doesn’t constitute preparedness. In the context of SCA, survival and preparedness should not be compromised by “size & weight”. My Avive Solutions Inc. Connect AED is the smallest & lightest FDA approved AED on the market. Bystander CPR & the timely use of an AED can significantly improve SCA outcomes. ❤️⚡️ #ThriveWithAvive #AED #CPR #CardiacArrest #Preparedness

Paramedic & Founder of MERE 👉 The World's #1 First Aid & Bleed Control Kits. Designed to save lives in every environment ⚕️
“The only difference between a mob and a trained army is organisation” The same relates to being a medic. Success depends on synchronisation and being able to make fast and accurate decisions when every second counts (or at least that's my belief). So why don't more medics spend time organising their kit? When we send out our MERE Supplies medical kits and response bags, we often pre-pack them in the most effective way. The goal is to make it straight-forward and logical for our customers (and fellow medics) to access the kit they need when responding to situations, without endlessly searching through their kit to find what they need.

Are you aware that AED pads and batteries have a limited lifespan? Pads typically stay effective for 2-4 years, while batteries can last anywhere from 2-5 years. Here's how to verify their status: For Batteries: Expiration dates are usually located on the back of the battery. An AED battery typically has three printed dates: a manufacturing date, an installation deadline, and an expiration date. For Pads: Look for the expiration dates on the AED pads themselves. Make sure your AED is always ready for emergencies by keeping an eye on the expiration dates of both pads and batteries. In need of fresh accessories?
